2022-09-06T13:48:15.028Z

Just before tonight (10:00 p.m.) Lial Abeda makes his debut in the Champions League, it's a good time to remember the Israeli players who managed to conquer in the top league, and not in the uniform of one of the Israeli teams • From Haim Rabivo to Lemanor Solomon - the great moments

Liel Abdeh may make his debut in the Champions League this evening (Tuesday) when his team Celtic will host Real Madrid (10:00 PM), in the first match of the group stage.

The 20-year-old Israeli started the season in a tremendous way with six goals in six games in the league, and will want to enter the glorious list - of Israeli players who scored a goal in the Champions League, and not in the uniform of an Israeli team.

Just before the diamond begins his personal journey, "Israel Today" reminds you of the Israeli players who have done this throughout history.

Haim Rabivo, Fenerbahçe, 2001

The first Israeli to play in the Champions League.

On 10.10.2001, Rabivo and 'Penner' hosted Leverkusen for a last chance game in the Champions League.

In the sixth minute, the Turks took a 0:1 lead, from the Israeli's first goal in the Champions League.

Rabivo cut from the right to the center of the box, and fired a great ball into the connections.

Later, the German team decided 1:2, and Rabivo and Fenerbahce were eliminated.

Yossi Benyon, Liverpool and Arsenal, 2007, 2009 and 2011

Although he made his debut in the Champions League only at the age of 27, Benion is the Israeli record holder for appearances and conquests in the factory and is even responsible for the two biggest appearances.

In 2007 Benyon exploded with a huge performance that many of us remember well.

The winger scored a hat trick and added two assists in Liverpool's 0:8 win against Besiktas.

Two years later, in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, Bannion scored a winning goal in the 83rd minute, a goal that is still considered the most important goal scored by an Israeli player in a team setting.

Later he scored goals in a Liverpool uniform against Fiorentina and against Lyon, and even in an Arsenal uniform in 2011, in the Gunners' loss to Olympiakos 3:1, the ball bounced in the area in front of Yossi, who swung his leg and fired a tremendous ball into the net in the 57th minute.

In total, Banyon played 26 games in the champions (seven of them in the knockout stages), scored seven goals and added another five assists.

Biram Kiel, Celtic, 2013

Four years after he was part of Maccabi Haifa's 0-0-0 campaign, the midfielder who today plays for Bnei Sakhnin, managed to score his only goal in the Champions League in a Celtic uniform against Ajax.

In the 53rd minute, Kiel sent a kick outside the box - which touched one of Ajax's defensive players and surprised Jasper Cilissen, Celtic went up 0:2.

By the way, in that game Nir Biton came off the bench as a substitute, and received a red card after only 11 minutes.

Beavers Natcho, CSKA Moscow, 2014 and 2016

Natcho has 24 appearances in the group stage of the champions, in the uniform of Rubin Kazan and CSKA Moscow. In addition to a pair of goals in the factory, the captain of the team also added four assists.

The midfielder's two goals in the Champions League came from the penalty spot, but their importance should not be underestimated - against City in 2014 and against Leverkusen in 2016.

Manor Solomon, Shakhtar Donetsk, 2019

The diamond of Israeli football has provided us with quite a few moments to cherish in recent years.

In Shakhtar's 2019 campaign, Solomon scored a dramatic winner (the only Israeli to do so apart from Yossi Benyon) against Atalanta in the 95th minute at the San Siro, and an equalizer at the Etihad against Manchester City.

A year later, Solomon was a decisive partner in Shakhtar's huge victory against Real Madrid 2:3 in the first round of the Champions League group stage, and even scored his team's third goal.

Also in the return match against Real Madrid, held at Shakhtar's home, Solomon scored the second goal in his team's victory 0:2.
