UEFA President Aleksandar Ceferin said yesterday (Monday) that he is confident that Spain and Portugal will host the World Cup in 2030. The two countries signed an agreement in 2020 to advance a joint bid to host the tournament and made it official in June.
"I am sure that the 2030 World Cup will be played in Spain and Portugal," Ceferin said via video conference during the opening of the Football Talks International Congress in Lisbon.
"This proposal is a winning proposal and we will do everything to help two countries that have passion, that live and breathe football and that have a good infrastructure to receive the tournament."
14 stadiums in 12 different cities have been proposed to be among the 11 cities in Spain expected to host matches if Portugal puts up three stadiums for the tournament.
Spain hosted the 1982 World Cup and launched a failed bid along with Portugal to host the 2018 World Cup, which was awarded to Russia.
Portugal has never hosted the World Cup, but did host the European Championship in 2004.

Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay announced a quadruple bid a few months ago that could have sentimental value as Uruguay hosted the first World Cup in 1930.
In 2018, Morocco announced that it would submit a bid to host the tournament in 2030, with later reports adding that it could be shared with Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Media reports indicated that China could also present a proposal that has yet to actually happen.
As a reminder, in about two and a half months Qatar will host the World Cup and in 2026 the biggest soccer tournament in the world will come to Canada, the United States and Mexico in 2026.
