The times are changing.
The last time Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer did not reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament was during… the US Open 2003. Due to absences (Federer n hasn't played since being eliminated in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2021, Djokovic still not vaccinated has not been allowed to enter the United States) and prestigious premature eliminations (Serena Williams from the 3rd round and Rafael Nadal in the 8th final), Flushing Meadows will pin a new winner in 2022, both for women and men.
An unprecedented Grand Slam winner for men, when for women, only the Polish Iga Swiatek (world No. 1) has, among the quarter-finalists, won a major tournament (two editions of Roland-Garros).
