Maccabi Haifa fans in Lisbon (Shlomo Weiss)
For 45 minutes last night (Tuesday), Nefika struggled against Maccabi Haifa, but in the second half she broke free, scored 0:2 at the Haor Stadium and did her job at the opening of the group stage of the Champions League.
"Maccabi Haifa can also finish first in this house, anything can happen here," insisted Roger Schmidt at the end.
"We are not the favorites, just like Maccabi Haifa, of course we would like to go up but it is not easy. At half time I told my players to stay calm, be patient, it is a difficult game. In the second half we were better, it is difficult to play at these levels."
18-year-old Antonio Silva made his debut in the Champions League "thanks" to the injury blow that befell Benfica's defenders.
The young stopper concluded: "I felt great. Hearing the anthem of the Champions League is something that makes me and my family proud, but it's just another game in my journey - that's what I hope. I'll remember it forever, but what's important is the victory."

Midfielder Joao Mario: "We played against an organized opponent and had a difficult first half, but we managed to overcome the obstacles in the second half. After we scored we took control of the game until the end. We are on the right path, but in the meantime we must recover physically and be ready for the next game, between The rest is mentally. Playing every three days is not an easy thing and after we lose or end a game in a draw, things can change."
