With their second win of the season, FC Augsburg has gained some air in the table basement.

At SV Werder Bremen, FCA managed a 1-0 (0-0) away win.

Ermedin Demirović (63rd minute) scored the goal of the day that saw Augsburg climb to eleventh place in the Bundesliga table for the moment.

Bremen, for whom Marvin Ducksch missed a penalty in injury time (90+4), are in a better position despite the defeat and are ninth.

Augsburg, who started the season poorly with only three points from five games, started the game better.

Coach Enrico Maaßen surprisingly relied on three strikers in the starting formation, of whom Florian Niederlechner in particular appeared several times in dangerous positions: First the FCA attacker narrowly missed a cross in the center, which Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka was just able to clear with a foot defense (2nd minute). .).

Just a few minutes later, Niederlechner even got past Pavlenka, but lost his balance just under five meters in front of the empty goal and struck an air hole - the ball rolled wide for a goal kick (6').

Zetterer celebrates first division debut after seven years

Werder struggled - and soon had to cope with a personal setback: goalkeeper Pavlenka tried for several minutes to stay on the pitch despite a thigh injury, but then had to give up.

Substitute Michael Zetterer, who was hailed with chants from the stands in the Weser Stadium, came on for the Czech after more than seven years at the club on his first Bundesliga appearance for Werder (29th).

The focus was initially on the penalty area of the guests from Augsburg.

A Ducksch free-kick cross was headed into the goal by Niklas Füllkrug to put Bremen ahead (31').

This led to vehement protests from the FCA professionals, who claimed a foul.

Referee Martin Petersen looked at the scene in the video and took the goal back, but due to an offside position: Anthony Jung had not touched the ball, but blocked an opponent from the forbidden zone and thus actively intervened in the game.

Demirović scores, Ducksch misses a penalty

At the beginning of the second half, the largely evenly matched teams played only hesitantly, Augsburg goalkeeper Rafał Gikiewicz deflected a dangerous Ducksch header over the bar (61').

Then Demirović struck: after a corner, Carlos Gruezo played a second ball deep, Mërgim Berisha put a sharp pass across the center.

Demirović only had to put his foot in there to give FCA the lead (63').

Werder coach Ole Werner now switched on his jokers for Scotsman Oliver Burke, who had scored the most goals in the final minutes so far this season.

FC Augsburg, however, came closest to a goal despite attempting a green-white final offensive, for which Berisha failed with a lob on the crossbar (75').

In added time, Petersen Werder awarded a controversial hand penalty, Maximilian Bauer had caught the ball on his arm.

The outstanding Gikiewicz, however, suspected the corner against Ducksch and parried (90+4).

Afterwards, some Bremen fans tried to storm from the stands in the direction of the square, but were held back by security forces.
