The German long jump world champion Malaika Mihambo only jumped to fourth place in the Diamond League final in Zurich.

At the end of the most important competition series in athletics, the runner-up at the European Championships in Munich and Olympic champion in Tokyo 2021 only managed a distance of 6.52 meters.

Again, the 28-year-old managed only one valid attempt, like last time at the Berlin Istaf, when she still won.

In addition, Mihambo missed two jumps.

"I'm fine, but I notice that this corona infection is affecting me more than I had hoped for," said the Olympic champion before the competition on the Sky TV channel.

After the World Cup in the USA in mid-July, Mihambo was infected and was then close to Serbian Ivana Vuleta at the European Championships in Munich.

The European champion also won the Diamond League title with 6.97 meters.

European Javelin Champion Weber was "out of breath"

Javelin thrower Julian Weber also missed the win.

With 83.73 meters, the European champion landed behind the Czech Jakub Vadlejch (86.94) and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra from India, who threw the javelin 88.44 meters.

A distance of 84.90 meters was enough for Weber to win the Istaf.

»It was a bit out of breath, I lacked the tension.

It'll be better next year," said Weber.

In the discus throw, victory was far away for Kristin Pudenz and Claudine Vita.

Pudenz from Potsdam, who came second at the Olympics and European Championships, took fourth place with 61.45 meters, Claudine Vita from Neubrandenburg, who came third at the European Championships, came fifth with 61.34 meters.

"The width is nothing," Pudenz said on Sky.

As with the Istaf, Olympic champion Valarie Allman won.

The American prevailed with 67.77 meters in front of European champion Sandra Perkovic from Croatia, who threw 67.31 meters.

Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce provided one of the outstanding performances in the Letzigrund over the 100 meters.

Despite a headwind, the 35-year-old world champion from Jamaica won in 10.65 seconds.
