A week after opening its participation in EuroBasket 2022 with many expectations, which crashed into a disappointing elimination in the group stage last night (Thursday), the Israeli national team landed today at Ben Gurion Airport.
The team arrived in Israel on two flights, one from Munich and the other from Zurich, when two Alba Berlin players, Yuval Sussman and Tamir Blatt, continued to their team's pre-season in Germany.
The team returned to Israel in the shadow of the heavy sense of loss that accompanies this campaign, and in the background of the news about the big changes it is supposed to go through in the near future in preparation for the 2023 MundoBasket qualifying window that will be held at the beginning of November.
Coach Guy Goodes and three veteran players got off the first plane: Gal Mekel, Guy Panini and Jake Cohen, for whom the national team chapter in their careers is apparently over.
Goodes and the three players declined to speak to the media.
The Israeli national team has difficulty explaining the failure.

Tomer Ginat, who landed on the second flight, said: "The feelings are awful, we didn't play well enough to advance. We traveled with the goal of doing it, we are very disappointed with the results. The next time we meet, we will do everything we can to earn another opportunity and make better use of it."
When asked about the reason for the painful relegation, the forward replied: "I don't think there was anything that didn't work, in the end the basketball we played wasn't good enough. I can't put my finger on anything specific."
Ginat also referred to reports of social problems in the team's dressing room: "Nonsense. I read all kinds of nonsense this morning about conflicts between people. Nothing is true, we all love each other very much, including the professional team and the management, things didn't work out on the field unfortunately."
