After the historic qualification for the World Championship, this evening (Friday) the Israeli women's water polo team met the Hungarian team - bronze medalists from the Olympic Games in Tokyo - for the fifth place match in the European Championship.
The blue and white lost 18:7 and finished the tournament in sixth place on the continent - the record achievement of Israeli water polo.
The game started under the control of Hungary, who took a 3:0 lead, with Alma Jacobi managing to reduce the score 42 seconds to the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, five goals by Hungary in front of a pair of goals by Noa Ssover and Maria Bogachenko reduced the teams to half time with the result 8:3.
In the third quarter, six goals by Hungary and a second goal in the game by Alma Jacobi made it 14:4.
The last quarter opened with another goal by Maria Bogachenko and immediately after that a Hungarian goal on a penalty kick.
Three more goals by the Hungarians, and two by Alma Jacobi and Moran Lindhoit determined the result of the game, 18:7.
