On the eighth match day, the teams were initially stingy with goals on Saturday afternoon.
Only one goal was scored by half-time.
While the duel between Karlsruhe and Heidenheim was an uneventful 0-0, a few more goals were scored in the other stadiums.
There were two in the Lower Saxony derby between Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig, who separated 1-1 (0-0) after a heated second half.
SC Paderborn had no problems with the Regensburgers still in trouble, in the end the second in the table prevailed 3-0 (1-0).
The Lower Saxony derby between Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig started with a minor game interruption because fans had lit pyrotechnics and the field of vision was restricted.
Not much happened on the pitch after that.
After four wins in a row, Hannover was the more self-confident team, but they only created one really big opportunity in the first half.
After a free kick cross, the ball reached Håvard Nielsen, who forced Braunschweig keeper Jasmin Fejzić to make a brilliant save from five meters out (45+4 minutes).
Braunschweig became bolder in the second half – and took the lead.
A cross from Danilo Wiebe came to attacker Anthony Ujah, who headed it in (69').
Then Hannover was awake and pushed for the equalizer.
First Nielsen only hit the crossbar (71st), then into the goal (78th).
After a cross from Cedric Teuchert, Nielsen cleverly held off his foot.
Braunschweig's players raged afterwards, they suspected the ball was in goal before the cross, but the goal counted.
After that, both teams missed good chances.
On Friday evening, Hamburger SV had briefly pushed SC Paderborn off the top of the table - on Saturday SCP regained first place.
Lukas Kwasniok's team was superior from the start against Jahn Regensburg, Marcel Hoffmeier used the first real chance of the game to take the lead (21').
Paderborn then continued to play forward – and knocked out the Upper Palatinate in the second half.
Regensburg's Steve Breitkreuz only got the red card after he was the last man to foul Paderborn's substitute attacker Felix Platte.
Referee Florian Badstübner first gave the yellow card, but corrected his decision after viewing the video images (68th).
From the following free kick it was 2:0.
Keeper Dejan Stojanovic was initially able to parry, but Robert Leipertz scored the goal from the turmoil (69th).
Marvin Pieringer made the final score (86th).
It was manageable what Karlsruhe and Heidenheim offered the fans in the first round.
Hardly any chances, hardly any combinations.
But a lot of fight in midfield.
KSC had the first opportunity in the 38th minute, when Jerôme Gondorf failed to hit the ball properly and aimed over it.
Nothing came from the favored Heidenheimers.
The second in the table only had their first opportunity in the 61st minute when Tim Kleindienst scored the supposed lead after a counterattack, but was caught offside.
Heidenheim was then closer to the first goal, but KSC defended the tie.
