Franz Beckenbauer celebrates his 77th birthday.

Jogi Löw congratulates in an emotional video message and thanks the Kaiser for his services to German football.

Munich – Franz Beckenbauer celebrates his 77th birthday on Sunday (September 11).

Kaiser Franz can look back on great successes in various functions at FC Bayern.

With the German national team, Beckenbauer became world champion first as a player in 1974 and then as a coach in 1990.

One of his successors in the DFB team was ex-national coach Jogi Löw, who brought the 2014 World Cup title from Brazil to Germany.

After his resignation after the European Championships a year ago, Löw became quiet.

Public appearances have become less frequent, just like with Beckenbauer, who has been retiring more and more in recent years because of his health.

For Beckenbauer, however, Löw is now choosing to go public again in order to send an emotional eulogy and birthday speech.

Title: European Champion 1972, World Champion 1974 and 1990, etc

Jogi Löw congratulates Franz Beckenbauer on his birthday: Emotional video message

"Dear Franz. Today is your birthday, I would like to wish you all the best and congratulate you with all my heart.

But today I just want to say thank you for what you have done for football in Germany and for all of us in your life.

As a player, as a coach, as an official,” Jogi Löw addressed Franz Beckenbauer in a personal video message on

Bild TV

on his 77th birthday.

"Even as a player, you were an exceptional talent who gave the game a very special touch.

You were captain, leader, icon, you were a role model for all of us.

You led FC Bayern to many titles in the 1970s,” Löw enthused in his speech.

Beckenbauer helped the Bundesliga to have a great image worldwide.

The 62-year-old also mentions Beckenbauer's successes in the national team: European champion in 1972 and world champion in 1974, as well as world champion in 1990 as a coach.

Being world champions as a player and coach is "something unusual and very, very special".

Beckenbauer also left his mark as a functionary.

Born in Munich, he was "for a long time president and global figurehead of FC Bayern Munich, you were also the figurehead of the DFB," said Löw about Beckenbauer.

He brought the 2006 World Cup to Germany.

"You were largely responsible for the fact that we were able to experience such a great World Cup in our own country in 2006.

We experienced an incredibly beautiful summer fairy tale.

The World Cup in Germany did Germany's image good all over the world.

That still applies today.

You were responsible for that.”

“You are an idol and a real icon for all of us.

For me, Franz, you shine brightly. And not just on your birthday, but for all time.

Thank you for being there," said Löw about Beckenbauer, who is also known as a "light figure" in German football.

Beckenbauer's health had deteriorated in recent years.

Most recently, he missed saying goodbye to Rudi Völler, who then explained: "Unfortunately, he's not doing so well."

Hopefully the Löw words will encourage the Kaiser.
