Deggendorfer SC proved to be one size too big for the Erding Gladiators.
Erding – Although the Bavarian league was able to keep up for long stretches, the top league prevailed with 5: 2 (1: 2, 0: 1, 1: 2) goals.
As with the 2:6 defeat at EHC Klostersee, it was evident that the Oberliga teams are a little further ahead in the pre-season.
Overall, the Deggendorfer seemed lively.
Nevertheless, Erdinger had the first chances through Daniel Krzizok (4th) and Sebastian Busch (5th), but both times ex-national goalkeeper Timo Pielmeier, who once became German champion with Ingolstadt, was the winner.
But then the Lower Bavarians took matters into their own hands and were outnumbered by defender Silvan Heiss, son of goalkeeping legend Josef “Peppi” Heiss, to make it 1-0 (7th).
The equalizer was a little surprising.
Gladiators newcomer Ryan Murphy shot from the inside right, the puck bounced up on the ice and past the puzzled DSC keeper into the net.
As a result, Erding's goalkeeper Christoph Schedlbauer was able to save twice against Lukas Miculka before he had to reach behind him.
After losing a puck in attack, three Deggendorfers ran towards a defender and Yannic Bauer made it 2-1 (15th).
Schedlbauer prevented the 1:3 with a sensational save against Julian Elsberger.
Shortly after the restart, however, he had no chance after a defensive blunder against a shot by Sascha Maul (24th).
Deggendorf continued to press, but Erding was not without danger with some counterattacks.
In the final section, DSC goalkeeper Justin Köpf, who was now in the goal, was surprised by an oblique shot by Leon Abstreiter, which made it 2:3 (43rd).
While a violent thunderstorm was raging outside and the light flickered briefly in the hall, the top division team launched an attack.
Bauer with a clever backhand flick (46th) and the completely free-standing Heiss (48th) screwed the Deggendorf lead to 5:2.
In a fair game, the Gladiators had two more chances to win in the final phase, but were unable to make the result any friendlier.
