Not much was missing and Liverpool FC would have made a complete false start in the Champions League - Joel Matip knew how to prevent that. For FC Porto it was a pack in the home game against Bruges.

On the second day of the Champions League group stage, Liverpool FC celebrated an important home win against Ajax Amsterdam.

Inter Milan were also successful in the Bayern group, while Tottenham conceded two last-minute goals in Lisbon.

Coach Jürgen Klopp's team is still looking for the top form of the past season.

After the moderate start to the season in the Premier League and the 4-1 defeat against Naples a week ago in the premier class, Ajax Amsterdam did not look like a win for a long time.

The Reds started, showed great commitment, had good opportunities - but the winning goal didn't want to come.

Until Joel Matip came along.

The ex-Schalke player climbed the highest after a corner kick, his powerful header was only cleared behind the line by Dušan Tadić (89th minute).

In the first half, Mohamed Salah, who has not scored as usual in the season following Sadio Mané's departure, gave Liverpool the lead.

The Egyptian was freed in a switching action by Diogo Jota and deliberately pushed in.

But Liverpool are struggling with big problems on the defensive this season, which was also shown by Mohammed Kudus' equalizer.

The Ajax striker was played with his back to the goal, was able to put the ball into the run and shot unstoppable into the left corner of the goal (27th).

After losing the opening match against FC Bayern, Inter saved their chance of reaching the round of 16 by beating Viktoria Pilsen.

The sixth in Serie A won 2-0 (1-0), man of the match was former Bundesliga professional Edin Džeko.

The Bosnian scored the lead with a low shot from the left corner of the penalty area (20').

After the break, Inter used a counter-chance to decide.

Džeko put the ball through the hosts' half and at the right moment passed the ball to Denzel Dumfries on the right.

The Dutchman shot into the far corner (70th) to make it 2-0.

The German national player Robin Gosens was in the starting XI for the Milan team and was involved in creating the opening goal.

In Group C, Inter are tied for third place with FC Barcelona after Bayern's win - now the Milanese meet the Catalans twice.

With two late goals, Frankfurt conquerors Sporting have become favorites in Group D against Tottenham.

When there was much to be said for a goalless draw, Spurs captain Hugo Lloris first saved his team with an outstanding flight parade, but he was powerless in the subsequent corner kick.

Substitute Paulinho got the ball first at the post and headed in (90+1).

A little later, Arthur Gomes increased the lead to 2-0 (90+3) after a strong solo.

Sporting won 3-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt last week and the Lisbon club are leading Group D after two days without conceding a goal.

The traditional Belgian club remains the surprise team of this year's Champions League season.

After the home win against Leverkusen on Matchday 1, Brugge also won at favorites FC Porto.

This puts coach Carl Hoefkens' team in first place with six points, while Porto are surprisingly pointless at the bottom of the table.

After a good initial phase by the hosts, Bruges took the lead with a converted penalty by Ferran Jutgla (15').

That gave the underdog a lot of confidence, because Brugge was the better team until half-time.

Things got even worse for Porto in the pouring rain early in the second half, goals from Kamal Sowah (47') and Andreas Skov Olsen (52') quickly deciding the game.

Antonio Nusa completed Porto's embarrassment in the closing stages (89').
