Training pays off - Henning von Bandemer proves that.

The "Bavarian Airhawks" player is currently enjoying success in disc golf, but comes from the Ultimate scene.

Weilheim – It's not the case that disc golfer Henning von Bandemer hits the nail on the head when he talks about his results.

But for what he had pulled off on the second round of the "Albuch Classic" in Söhnstetten, the only word he could think of was "magical".

On the 18-hole course in the district of Heidenheim, which the organizers had made a little more difficult for the tournament, the player from the “Bavarian Airhawks” stayed nine shots under par. A result that only three other players in the entire tournament just undercut. namely the top three of the open class.

"It went incredibly well.

Even the difficult throws were successful without much thought,” reported von Bandemer.

In the end, the lap was decisive for the “Airhawk” easily winning the “Master 50” class.

After three rounds he was eight under par, well ahead of the runner-up (five over par).

Class win for von Bandemer in Söhnstetten

By winning his class in Söhnstetten, the 53-year-old from Starnberg demonstrated that he hadn't won the Bavarian Airhawks club championship a few weeks earlier by sheer coincidence.

In the internal title fights, although he ended up winning, he wasn't able to pull off what he's actually capable of.

Von Bandemer won with three under par. “That's nothing to be proud of.

Things didn't go as badly for me that day as for the others.” Others were the favourites: “We have so many very good players in the club,” says von Bandemer.

Nevertheless, he coped best with the conditions on the course on the Gögerl that day.

And such a club title "you take it with you," says the freelance web developer with a smile.

The players in the open class all struggled in the club championship.

In the end, the veterans ended up at the very front.

Behind von Bandemer, "Airhawks" veterans Günter Tanner and Christian Oswald took second and third place.

After two rounds of 18, both had 108 throws on the account, which exactly meant par (“even” in jargon).

Even if the results weren't outstanding, "we all had a lot of fun on the laps," according to the "Airhawks".

On the 24th/25th

On September 1st, the Weilheim Club will host a major tournament.

The reason for the "Birthday Challenge" is the 40th anniversary of the disc golf course on the Gögerl.

There are 72 starting places, and numerous top players from Germany have registered.

Of course, Hennning von Bandemer will also be at the start.

The Starnberger has been a member of the "Bavarian Airhawks" for a long time, but used to do it primarily in the "Ultimate" discipline until 2008.

This is a team game where the aim is to place a disc in an 'end zone'.

Last summer, von Bandemer played a round in Weilheim with two former "Ultimate" colleagues and an "Airhawks" disc golfer.

"That got me so sucked in," reports the Starnberger - and adds with a laugh: "I totally got into it."

Henning von Bandemer brings Weilheimer club title

Sitting on the sofa at home, he looks at “three shelves with 150 panes”.

It is almost certain that von Bandemer is the one who has completed the most laps on the Gögerl over the past 365 days.

Statistically speaking, “I do more than one lap a day”.

Of course, the training has had an effect, von Bandemer is currently able to consistently deliver "decent performances", as he says.

The practical experience he gained in Weilheim "helps me on other courses".

Because the parcours in the district town - at the time the first in Germany in its fixed design - is a good practice field due to its long tracks.

Bandemer keeps hearing from other disc golfers: "In Weilheim you learn to throw far."

In order to further increase the sporting ambition within the club, a ranking system was introduced in the course of the club championship with the "Bavarian Airhawks".

The members can steal “bag tags” from each other and thus improve in a table.

As club champions, von Bandemer was number one.

So far "I've been able to defend the position twice".

The duels offer a good opportunity to create a tournament atmosphere during training.

"That makes a difference," says von Bandemer.

He himself has a very special view of disc golf: "There's something aesthetic about a disc flying nicely."

New baskets on the course at Gögerl

In the “Birthday Challenge”, the participants throw their discs onto brand new baskets on the 18 lanes.

The Airhawks members installed it a few weeks ago.

For the layman, they may not differ from the previous ones, but for the players they mean a huge difference: "They catch the disc better and are shaped differently," says von Bandemer.

This model is used in many major international tournaments.

Two of the new disc golf baskets were donated by the city of Weilheim.

The “Bavarian Airhawks” are grateful for that.

"A very good sign.

We are happy about such signals,” says von Bandemer.

Such shows that the city administration is positively open to this sport, which in Weilheim takes place in an area that is definitely relevant under nature conservation law.
