Jurgen Klopp's team recovered after the defeat to Napoli, thanks to a dramatic winning goal by Joel Matip • Mohamed Salah also returned to score in the red uniform • Caleb Brugge ran over Porto in Dragao • Atletico Madrid lost to Leverkusen

Liverpool hoped to recover this evening (Tuesday) from the defeat to Napoli in the opening round, when they hosted Ajax at Anfield for the second match of the group stage of the Champions League.

The English did start well when Mohamed Salah scored for the first time after four games to make it 0:1 after 17 minutes, but Ajax have a new star who found the equaliser.

Muhammad Kudus, who two years ago was seriously injured in the meeting between the teams, sent a bomb into Alison's connections ten minutes later and made it 1:1.

Jurgen Klopp sent Darwin Nunes and Roberto Firmino onto the field in the hope of getting the winning goal, but it was stopper Joel Matip who scored in the end in the 89th minute.

It ended with a difficult but important 1:2 for the English runner-up.

Porto - Club Brugge 4:0

In House B, Club Brugge appears to be the big surprise of the season.

A week after beating Eintracht Frankfurt at home, they beat Porto 0:4 in Dergau and kept a perfect record.

Fran Zutgala, Kamal Sava, Andreas Skob Olsen and Antonio Musa scored the goals that handed Porto their heaviest home loss since the 5-1 loss against Liverpool over a year ago.

Bayer Leverkusen - Atletico Madrid 0:2

The Belgians remained the only ones at home with a perfect record after Atlético Madrid surrendered to Bayer Leverkusen 0:2.

This game was deadlocked at 0-0 until the 84th minute, but goals from Robert Andrych and Moussa Diaby separated the teams to give Gerardo Savannah's team their second overall win of the season in all competitions.
