The Cervera rider exceeds all expectations in his recovery and returns to competition after three and a half months inactive

Marc Márquez will return to competition this coming weekend during the Aragón GP.

The appointment at the Motorland circuit, in Alcañiz, is practically like a home race for the one from Cervera, a town that is two hours from the track and that usually receives a swarm of fans of the eighth world champion.

The news was hard to come by, although everything pointed to the reappearance of the rider after the good experience on the competition bike in the Misano tests last week.

The return of the flagship of the championship comes three and a half months after his last test at Mugello, when he decided to undergo surgery for the fourth and last time to try to solve his problems with his right humerus.

Apparently remedied, and after checking repeatedly that his feelings on the bike are positive, Márquez has exceeded the most optimistic forecasts that placed him back for the last two rounds of the season after the operation.

The definitive test was this Monday on the same stage, when he rode for the third time in two weeks on a street bike during a private test on the karting track.

“This smile means that I will be competing at the Aragón GP”, the Repsol Honda rider shared in a video posted on his social networks.

“After talking with the doctors and the team, we have decided that the best thing for my recovery is to continue on the bike and accumulate kilometers for next year.

Doing it at Motorland, in front of all the fans, is priceless”.

The team added that the main objective is to assess his performance during the intensity of a full Grand Prix weekend and race, as well as continuing to improve his fitness.

At Misano last week the rider completed 101 laps and was very pleased with the feeling in his arm.

“He has gone much better than I expected.

After his operation in Rochester (Minnesota, United States) on July 2, Márquez was unable to do load-bearing work on his arm until he was discharged just 20 days ago.

In this short period, he has intensified his training to be able to compete in Aragon.

Despite this acceleration, he has always maintained that, on this occasion, knowing that his sporting career is at stake, his plan of action remains more prudent than in the past.

If this weekend the good feelings are confirmed, the ordeal that started in July 2020 will be a thing of the past for 93. It would be great news for him, his team and his fans, but also for the health of a championship of MotoGP devoid of superstars.

Joan Mir also reappears

Marc Márquez's future Repsol Honda teammate, Mallorcan Joan Mir, will also try to compete again in Aragón after skipping the San Marino GP due to a multiple fracture in his right ankle.

Although he is still suffering from the consequences of the injury, the Suzuki rider travels with the intention of racing if he manages to pass a final mandatory medical check-up by the event's doctors.
