A smack with the flat of his hand on the plastic backrest of the spare bench.

bang!

In addition, a look as if 1860 had just gambled away the rise.

Munich

– Leandro Morgalla's reaction after the final whistle in Elversberg (1: 4) spoke volumes.

There's someone who's not only passionate about what he's doing.

No, the lions have one at the start who wants to tear something.

with the team

Personally.

And above all: whenever he is on the pitch.

He almost always does that, this high-flyer from the NLZ of TSV 1860. Eight times in eight games of this third division season, each for the full 90 minutes, recently even in the football cup against Türkgücü when other regulars were rested.

Leo has a strong "urge to run", joked coach Michael Köllner.

It's hard to believe that this Morgalla has never been allowed to vote or drive a car unaccompanied.

Only this Tuesday will Morgalla officially grow up into a man.

The team will be serenading the Cub on his 18th birthday, but as things stand, "Leo" won't be able to enjoy his special day.

Not after Elversberg's gossip, which annoyed Morgalla immensely - see opening scene.

TSV 1860: Morgalla sees the future at 1860

He wished his youngest regular player "only the best", Köllner said when he was asked by our newspaper about Morgalla's entry into adulthood.

The coach and the blonde central defender - it's been a special relationship since Köllner used the native of Hesse in a competitive game for the first time in August 2021.

Morgalla was just 16 when he made his professional debut in Birkenfeld - and still a ray of hope in the poor 3-0 victory in the soccer cup against the eighth division team.

Recently, when it came to whether 1860 could keep Morgalla, Köllner said: "I think Leandro knows what trust the coach means - and how he got into the professional field." Morgalla promptly played the ball back.

In his only interview so far, given to the Bild newspaper, the youngster said:

"I owe him (Köllner) a lot, he puts his trust in me and gives me the chance.

I've already noticed that it helps if you listen to him.

He is a very important reference person for me.”

The Köllner factor.

Last but not least, 1860 relies on this when it comes to converting Morgalla's youth development contract, which is valid until 2024, into a professional contract.

In a summer interview with our newspaper, Robert Reisinger expressed concerns about this.

"We all know how business is going," said the President: "If we move up, we might be able to keep him for another season, but certainly not longer." In the said picture interview - surprise - Morgalla then said relatively clearly: "You don't need to ask any more, I've already made a decision for myself: I see my future at 1860."

TSV 1860: Morgalla and Löwen in exchange

Both sides are therefore interested in continuing the cooperation.

So far, the super talent has been playing for 350 euros per month – with no entitlement to bonuses.

The trick will be to get a contract that does justice to everyone - and at the same time to put off the interested parties from the 1st and 2nd leagues who have pricked up their ears.

Gladbach, Cologne, Hoffenheim – and many more, as consultant Christian Nerlinger confirms.

The former Bayern pro says: "We are only interested in seeing the best sporting development for Leo.

With 1860 we are in a good exchange.”

With Lars and Sven Bender, the lions managed in the 2006/07 second division season to celebrate the twins' 18th birthday with a celebratory contract signing ceremony in the presence of the press.

Will a similar coup succeed?

Sports director Günther Gorenzel, already active for 1860 (as an assistant coach), said when asked: Morgalla had committed to going the way to professional football “together with us”: “We are with him and his environment in the very trusting and constructive exchange in order to create a contractual win-win situation for everyone involved in a timely manner."
