The owners of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury from the NBA and WNBA leagues were punished with a one-year suspension from all activities of the teams in organizations and a fine of 10 million dollars.
The punishment comes after evidence was discovered of racist and sexual remarks by Robert Sarber in addition to inappropriate behavior towards his employees in the various clubs and in his other businesses.
This means that the owner will not be able to be involved in the decision making in the groups in the coming year.
As a reminder, already in November 2021, an investigation was published on ESPN that shocked the basketball industry in the United States, because over 70 employees of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury were interviewed and told about racist remarks on the part of Sarber, when employees said that in one case the owner passed a photo of his wife in a bikini between them and shared with them the actions sex she performed on him.
The former player of Phoenix, Taylor Griffin, said that Sarber asked him if he shaves his pubic hair, and in the investigation it was also revealed that one of the members of the Suns management took off his pants in front of his friends.
Women who worked in the groups said that they were treated as his "property", as he said to one of them himself.

The investigation also referred to Sarva's use of the "N" word, but Sarva denied that he used the same derogatory word: "This word was never uttered by me, it is an inappropriate expression that goes against everything I believe in," he claimed at the time.
The league management decided to donate the money from the fine to organizations dealing with the fight against racism and to organizations that promote gender discourse in various settings and workplaces.
