The United States basketball team came to the 2008 Olympic tournament with one goal, and one goal only: to win a gold medal, and forget the failures of the past.
To this end, a new team was built around one superstar, and a series of rising stars: to Kobe Bryant, the Americans added LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony, and the new team received a binding name: Redeem Team ("Redemption Team"), as a paraphrase About the legendary Dream Team of 1992.

Next month, a new film (from the creators of "The Last Dance") documenting that magical tournament will be released on Netflix.
"We had to figure out how to become a team," LeBron said.
"I had a lot of concerns, and that's why we brought in Kobe Bryant," said Sheshavski, and it turns out that Black Mamba did have a decisive influence on the entire staff.
"Kobe said, 'I'm tired of seeing you guys lose,'" Carmelo Anthony said.
"This was our chance for redemption," Bryant said at the start of the championship - and did exactly that.
Since that tournament, the United States has restored its deterrent power in the world of basketball and started another streak of gold medals - a streak that was interrupted at the 2019 World Championship, when it lost to France in the quarterfinals.
