FC Bayern Munich defeated FC Barcelona 2-0.

A star newcomer was not allowed to participate - Matthijs de Ligt was only on the bench.

But he was happy to have visitors.

Munich - It was an exciting evening in the Allianz Arena!

FC Bayern Munich had expected FC Barcelona for the second group game in the Champions League.

The return of Robert Lewandowski, the Bundesliga crisis of the German record champions, the line-up debate - there were many topics that accompanied the top game.

After 90 grueling minutes in the Allianz Arena, it hasn't decreased.

The Spanish press can hardly believe that Barcelona got nothing in Munich.

Leroy Sané had scored again and was still angry - and Leon Goretzka was also angry after the game.

It probably bothered Matthijs de Ligt a little that he didn't play a role in the clash between two great football powers.

The newcomer from Turin sat on the bench for 90 minutes, or he was only allowed to warm up.

He wasn't used.

Brother, sister and friend in the Allianz Arena: De Ligt was not allowed to play against Barcelona

His siblings Wout and Fleur, as well as his girlfriend Annekee, would have been delighted to see the centre-back live on the pitch.

The trio came to the Allianz Arena together and diligently posted Instagram stories during the game.

Wout, a former youth player at Ajax Amsterdam, and Fleur are twins.

And of course the younger siblings are very proud of their Matthijs, even if he wasn't allowed to actively help his team on the pitch on Tuesday evening.

De Ligt against Barcelona only on the bench: A break against Barcelona was to be expected

It was already to be expected that de Ligt did not play against Barcelona.

After all, the Dutch international started the last three Bayern games from the start.

With the excellent competition from Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez, it is clear that the central defense also has to be rotated.

And so de Ligt was only the third choice against Barcelona.

Possibly also because Upamecano and Hernandez know the opposing top striker very well from the past Bayern years: Lewandowski had chances to score goals, but was well protected, especially in the second half.

Much Amsterdam at Munich against Barcelona

Another player, whom Wout and Fleur de Ligt also know well, was allowed to play in contrast to his pal: Frenkie de Jong.

He and Matthijs de Ligt were seen as the congenial Ajax duo in 2019, when the Amsterdam side conquered the hearts of Europe.

The two have known each other for ages, are great friends and almost both ended up in Catalonia a few years ago.

De Jong accepted the offer, but De Ligt decided to move to Turin.

Now they saw each other again in Munich.

In general, Ajax Amsterdam played a major role on this late summer evening in the Allianz Arena: With Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch, two former players of the Dutch record champions were on the pitch in Bayern jerseys.

In addition, de Jong on the Barca side and de Ligt on the Bayern bench.

De Ligt will soon be back in the Bayern starting XI

De Ligt's siblings may stay longer in Bavaria.

On Saturday they are guaranteed to see their brother in action - albeit for a sad reason.

Defensive competitor Lucas Hernandez was injured in the closing stages against Barcelona and is now out for several weeks with a torn muscle.

Matthijs de Ligt will be making a few starting eleven appearances in the near future - even if there is an international break after the upcoming game in Augsburg and he is going back to Holland.
