Distance hunters do the honors

Florian Kloiber, state trainer in the Bavarian Ice Sports Association (BEV), and district warden Robert Karpfinger await a curling spectacle on Monday, October 3rd.
Erding – Because the championships of the long-distance shooters for the ice shooting districts III and IV are rising in Hörlkofen. It starts at 9.30 a.m.
"For many years, the district championships for long-distance shooters have traditionally been held on October 3rd at the entire association level," says Florian Kloiber.
"They are also the qualifying tournament for the Bavarian championships, which will be held in Freilassing on the Epiphany weekend in 2023."
It is not so easy to find suitable terrain for the long-distance shooters, who sometimes throw their sticks out 100 meters on the concrete slope.
"It's a challenge to find something there," knows Florian Kloiber.
"The track has to be a good 100 meters long, reasonably straight and must not be littered with manhole covers," explains the state coach and adds with a wink: "And of course it shouldn't be a main road." Robert Karpfinger found what he was looking for in Hörlkofen, and that's how it will be the Kronbergstraße behind the sports facility of SV Hörlkofen to the competition slope.
He describes it as "a very suitable and pleasant track, which is also suitable for beginners".
The only small drawback according to Florian Koiber: "It's a bit narrow."
But that doesn't dampen the anticipation.
"It's nice to have a competition like this here in the region," says the state coach and hopes "that many spectators will come."
What's more, where with Felix Karpfinger and Maxi Kloiber two young boys from the region are among the favorites in their age groups and have already caused a sensation at national and international level.
Some other national team shooters are also expected.
Robert Karpfinger expressly thanks SV Hörlkofen, whose officials have supported the project from the start, as well as Mayor Thomas Gneißl.
"Tom is a stick shooter veteran and will definitely stop by," Florian Kloiber is certain.
Districts III and IV hold the championship together, "because District IV doesn't have that many long-range shooters," explains the state coach.
There will be shooting in the categories U 14 m/f, U 16, U 19 m/f, U 23, women, men, Ü 40 and Ü 50. The organizer is Rot-Weiß Klettham, competition director Helmut Thöbert.
Participation is only permitted with a valid player pass.

“But spontaneous people are also welcome,” emphasizes Florian Kloiber.
You can still register until Sunday, October 2nd.
State coach Florian Kloiber will start with the Ü40 and men's teams and will meet his son Maxi there, who also shoots for the U23s.
"Let's see if I can keep him in check," says Kloiber senior with a grin.
Robert and Felix Karpfinger do not compete against each other.
While Felix is in the U19s and U23s, father Robert is certain: “I only compete in the over 50s.
