The fear of cruciate ligament rupture was not confirmed.

Nevertheless, Florian Neuhaus will probably be able to tick off the World Cup.

Update, September 13, 10:00 a.m.:

Florian Neuhaus will almost certainly not go to the World Cup!

After the Gladbach midfielder was afraid that he had torn his cruciate ligament in the game against Freiburg, he has now been diagnosed with a partial rupture of the rear cruciate ligament.

In other words: only a partial tear of the rear cruciate ligament, a rather rare injury.

If the cruciate ligaments in soccer players are affected, it primarily affects the front, not the rear.

All of this is cold consolation for Neuhaus, who has already played ten games in DFB dress.

Even if he doesn't need an operation now, his absence will probably last too long to be recommended for Hansi Flick's DFB team.

He will announce the squad for the Winter World Cup in Qatar at the end of October.

The German national team will start the tournament against Japan on November 23, probably without Neuhaus.

First report, September 11, 10:00 p.m.:

Freiburg – 30 minutes had been played in the SC Freiburg game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (final score 0-0) before the disaster took its course.

After a Gladbach corner, Florian Neuhaus collided with his opponent Daniel-Kofi Kyereh.

So bad that the German international couldn't continue and had to be substituted.

First suspicions go in the direction of a bad diagnosis: cruciate ligament rupture.

It would mean a month-long break and the end of the defensive midfielder's World Cup dream.

Gladbach coach Farke on Neuhaus injury: "Looks like a cruciate ligament injury"

After the final whistle, Gladbach coach Daniel Farke was

asked about his protégé's state of health on the

DAZN microphone.

The trainer dashed any hopes of an all-clear.

So Farke confirmed the fears that the viewers had already had when looking at the television pictures: "It looks like a cruciate ligament injury," according to the results of the first investigations.

Of course, no final judgment can be made without more in-depth diagnostics.

However, Gladbach's medical staff probably carried out the first examinations in the stadium.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich was also shocked by the potentially serious injury.

"Hopefully not," said Streich, when asked about the initial suspicion of a cruciate ligament tear.

Gladbach's Neuhaus showed improving form and had hopes of participating in the World Cup

Especially bitter for the Gladbacher: After losing his regular place last season, he was back in the current season under new coach Daniel Farke.

With permanent playing time, his hope grew that he could make it into the World Cup squad of national coach Hansi Flick despite well-known competition.

The World Cup dream could now be shattered within a few seconds.

In the case of a cruciate ligament injury, even if it is not a tear, a longer downtime is certain.

And since the squad of the German national team will be announced at the end of October, it is hard to imagine that Neuhaus will be able to show himself sufficiently by then.

While Hansi Flick probably has to delete a candidate from his list, ex-national coach Jogi Löw touchingly congratulates another world champion coach on his birthday.
