A great achievement for Judai Yam Volchek, who today (Thursday) won the bronze medal at the European Youth Championship (up to the age of 21), which is being held in Prague, Czech Republic.
Competing in the 60 kg weight category, Wolczek had a long day of fights, during which he defeated opponents from Greece, Serbia and Romania but was stopped in the semi-finals after receiving a third penalty from Poland's Kasaura Ignaciak, which sent him into the bronze medal fight.
In the decisive battle, against the French Enzo Jean, neither side was able to get on the podium at the end of the first 4 minutes, when 43 seconds into the gold scoring, the Israeli achieved an Ipon, which gave him the place on the podium.
Volchek said at the end: "I had a long day, I dedicate the medal to my personal trainer, the late Amir Klein, all thanks to him."
Oren Samadja, the team's coach, added: "It is important for us to have continuity and consistency in all age categories and to see the results of the hard work and the future generation continue to progress and bring such results. A significant achievement for Israeli judo."
