Many sports clubs now enjoy first-class social media presences.

Christoph Ziegltrum and the SVA Palzing were one of the pioneers in the district.

Freising

– Now it has to be quick: The football match between SVA Palzing and VSST Günzlhofen has just ended when Christoph Ziegltrum packs his belongings.

It's quick to go home, computer on and the memory card in the reader - after all, people want to be supplied with content, as content on the Internet is called today.

Ziegltrum (31) belongs to a new generation.

He practically grew up with the digital world - and belongs to an ever-growing crowd of young people who volunteer and run social media channels for amateur clubs.

In the past, a spokesman had to be able to use the phone first and foremost, but today there is a lot more to it than that.

communication is everything.

And above all: communication is where the target audience can be found.

In the district of Freising, too, more and more sports clubs are beginning to present themselves on social media.

On Facebook, but especially on Instagram.

The platform that, according to the Swiss “Jim Study”, is now used by 76 percent of all young people aged 18 and over.

But more on that later.

Overwhelming feedback on Ziegltrum's work for SVA Palzing

A new field of activity has opened up for Christoph Ziegltrum with the support of the Instagram channel at the SVA.

After a cruciate ligament rupture, her sporting career was a thing of the past.

At some point, the 31-year-old returned to his home club – and at least brought fame to the SVA across the county.

Some clubs are envious of what the head of the department in order management at Garmin does weekend after weekend.

Especially for the district league kickers, but soon also for the handball girls.

How Ziegltrum presents the SVA, writes game day announcements and puts pin-sharp photos online at a professional level.

At least one of each player per game, that's the claim.

"There's a lot of work involved," explains Ziegltrum, "but this is my club, that's why I do it."

The 31-year-old came to this part-time job by trying it out.

First he worked for the regional league women of Wacker Munich.

When a lot was restructured there, the Wolfersdorfer said goodbye.

Today's SVA department head Marcel Radlmaier quickly became aware of the former - the social media success story took its course.

"I just have the urge to give people the best possible information," explains the 31-year-old.

SVA board member Michael Mitterweger is also audibly proud.

Such an Instagram appearance is not mandatory, "but for young people it is the new media world, and it is therefore a great thing that we are represented there".

What pleases the head of the club above all: Since the Instagram channel has been online, there has been more and more positive feedback.

"People are getting curious," he points out, more viewers have come since then.

Ziegltrum's commitment should not be underestimated financially either.

"Our strong beer festival this year was better attended than ever before," says Mitterweger.

"There were mainly young people there and many who only found out about it via Instagram," the chairman continued.

The SVA boss is extremely pleased that the 31-year-old has found someone who runs the channel with passion.

"It's crazy what he's doing there," Mitterweger ennobles him.

FC Neufahrn lands a stroke of luck for its social media with Sky employees

They have also recognized the signs of the times at FC Neufahrn and also run their own Instagram channel.

"And the response is enormous," reports soccer department head Mario Moharitsch.

The Neufahrners will soon crack the magic number of 1000 followers – that's what the people who like a channel are called.

"Several thousand people see a single piece of information," enthuses Moharitsch.

With one click, information can be sent all over the world – that would have been unthinkable before.

On the one hand, this is of course a nice thing for the athletes, who read the result in black and white on the Internet after a win, garnished with photos of the game.

Above all, it is also a not insignificant gain for club life.

For each game there is a post on the FCN Instagram page - that's what the individual posts are called - with an announcement for the day of the game.

And each of these announcements comes with a sponsor's logo: priceless reach.

Whereas a hundred people used to see the stadium magazine, today thousands of people know who supports FC Neufahrn financially.

Sebastian Blome is responsible for the Instagram content at FC Neufahrn.

"An absolute stroke of luck for us," enthuses Moharitsch.

A lot of effort is also behind FC Neufahrn's Instagram appearance.

Until a few weeks ago, FC veteran Markus Schubert was still responsible for the channel.

However, when he had to step down for professional reasons, the Instagram appearance was initially orphaned.

Then Blome moved to Neufahrn for professional reasons, joined the FCN and relatively quickly offered to succeed Schubert.

Blome (30) works on the social media team at the Sky pay channel and thus has “a certain affinity to the topic”, as the kicker himself admits.

"I also wanted to start something at FCN." The 30-year-old has been responsible for the Neufahrner Kanal since this season, "and if we do it, we'll do it nicely," is his credo.

Agency owner Michael Kasper advises not only to rely on Instagram

The Freisings Grizzles have also been using social media for quite some time.

First it started with the softball women, then the entire department followed.

"But we also wanted to show what's happening in the entire club," explains Steffi Ströll, who runs the channel together with her husband Rainer.

There are also corresponding announcements for the matchdays, and players and teams are also presented at regular intervals.

Many would respond "that it is very practical if they see what's going on with us".

Back to the "Jim Study", which analyzes the media behavior of young people.

YouTube is the most important app among all respondents, followed by Instagram.

According to this, 76 percent of all young people aged 18 and over have an Instagram channel.

Michael Kasper, owner of the marketing agency "Kaspercom", would still not focus too much on one platform.

"The basic problem with volunteering is finding good people, especially in sports," Kasper reflects.

"And it's essential to present yourself as professionally as possible." Instagram is of course one way, but a well-run website or Facebook page would also help.

It doesn't always have to be expensive solutions.

Surely there is someone in every club now who has the talent for something like this.

"In the end, it's crucial to be authentic,

In addition, you should see every club as a small company for which self-promotion is important.” Print offers are not dead either, says Kasper.

"A good flyer or a small magazine - that can do a lot." At FC Neufahrn they are already thinking one step ahead: soon there will be printed player cards, "in the style of autograph cards", as Moharitsch calls it.

"You just have to keep up with the times," explains the division head.

But above all with a well-managed Instagram channel.

Club life now also takes place online.
