After the past Corona seasons, DEL Managing Director Gernot Tripcke fears renewed restrictions in the new season starting on September 15th.
The head of the German Ice Hockey League is primarily concerned with "symbolic politics".
Neuss - "The most recent example was the issue of LED banners: Some people seriously thought that you shouldn't switch on neon signs before 4 p.m. and after 10 p.m.," said Tripcke in an interview with the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Thursday).
“Fortunately, this only affects ice hockey marginally and the misunderstanding was quickly cleared up.
But every morning there are topics that make you think: This can't be true."
Tripcke is currently still relaxed about the exploding energy costs for the DEL clubs.
“Professional sport naturally makes its efforts to save energy wherever possible.
But we're moving in the millipermillion range," said the DEL boss.
Tripcke fears that possible hall closures will have “effects on popular and young sports” and demands: “There has to be a clear political statement and not: We are now closing to save a bit of electricity.”
The new season starts on September 15 (7:30 p.m./Magentasport) with the game between the Kölner Haie and EHC Red Bull Munich.
