Alphonso Davies was not good enough for those responsible at FC Barcelona.
Now this shows at Bayern what the Catalans have missed.
Munich – If those responsible at FC Barcelona had known what kind of player Alphonso Davies would become, they would certainly not have rejected him.
Half a year before Davies moved to Bayern, a Barça scout had the Canadian on his note, but his recommendation was met with rejection in Spain, which is somewhat surprising in the choice of words.
Alphonso Davies rejected - Barça scout: "They told me no"
In January 2019, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić brought Canadian Davies from the Vancouver Whitecaps to Säbener Straße for 10 million euros.
With today's knowledge, Brazzo managed to get a real bargain on the American market, because Davies is currently one of the best left-backs in the world and is set for FC Bayern.
But Bayern weren't the only ones to put out feelers into North American MLS.
FC Barcelona had also placed a scout there with Hristo Stoichkov.
And he was also impressed by Davies, recommending them to the Catalans, who, however, found no use for the left-back.
Stoichkov is quoted by the

: "I recommended Alphonso Davies and they said no to me.
He plays in the MLS and is Canadian.”

Davies qualities for Barcelona apparently not enough
Astonishment arises above all at Stoichkov's explanation, which at least raises some doubts about the meaningfulness of the Catalans' activities.
Because: If players from the MLS were considered too bad anyway, the question arises as to why Barcelona sent scouts there at all.
The allusion to Davies' nationality, which obviously cannot be a reason for evaluating the footballing quality, only leaves the assumption that too little marketing potential was seen on the Canadian market.

For Davies himself, looking at the past will be irrelevant, as the left-back has already won countless titles with Bayern Munich.
Including the Champions League trophy in the 2019/20 season.
And Davies also knew how to impress from the start in Bayern's 2-0 win over FC Barcelona.
Lewandowski, on the other hand, who turned his back on Bayern in favor of the Catalans before the season, was in a different emotional world than Davies might have been.
