An icon of English and world football, notably for his success with Manchester United and Real Madrid, former footballer David Beckham made the trip to the Palace of Westminster to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 at the 96 years old.
The former star of the Three Lions thus queued in the crowd for more than twelve hours to meditate near the coffin of Her Majesty, with tears in her eyes.
"I thought coming at 2 a.m. it would be quieter, but I was wrong," the former England national team captain told ITV.
“It's difficult for the nation, difficult for everyone.
I think everyone feels it and our thoughts are with the (royal) family,” added the 47-year-old star, before discussing his emotion that seized him when he sang the national anthem before a match: “It was something that meant so much to us.

Sprayed with photos during his long wait in the crowd, David Beckham caused a stir on social media, being photographed in a sober outfit, in a dark suit and tie and a newsboy cap on his head.

On Sky News, the football legend also said: “The most important moment for me was when I received (my medal of) the Order of the British Empire.
I had taken my grandparents, real royalists, with me.
