The former defender and captain of the France team explained, during a trip to Ghana, that he would, in hindsight, have preferred to evolve so

The former captain of the France team, Patrice Evra, has never been stingy with shocking declarations.

They have even marked out his entire career.

Retired from the field since 2019, Patrice Evra, 41, was traveling to Ghana and took the opportunity to highlight his African roots since he was born in Senegal.

"My dream is to change the image of Africa," he said during his trip.

I really want, through my social networks, that this generation knows that they can succeed in their own country”.

If I could go back in time, I'll choose to represent...Senegal, instead of France.

I was born in Dakar but grew up in France...when you play good and win, you're French;

when the team lose, you are singled out as Senegalese."

And without knowing where the part of spontaneity and that of provocation are, Evra explained that, with hindsight, he would have preferred to play for Senegal than for the France team.

“If I could go back, asserts the ex-Mancunian, I would choose to represent my native country, Senegal, instead of France (…) When I was young, my parents gave me the chance to choose my national team and because I grew up in France, I chose France.

But I realized later that choosing my own country became political.

One of the painful lessons I learned with this pick is that when you play well and win, you are French;

when the team loses, you are considered Senegalese”.
