German basketball star Dennis Schröder returns to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The captain of the national team announced this on Instagram about an hour after losing the semifinals of the European Championship on Friday evening.
“The last year hasn't felt right.
I'm coming back to make things right," he wrote.
The team also confirmed the contract without giving details of the terms.
According to the broadcaster ESPN and the sports medium "The Athletic", Schröder is said to have signed a one-year contract and earn around 2.6 million dollars.
Schröder, who has been playing in the North American professional basketball league NBA since 2013, moved to Los Angeles in 2020, but at the end of the 2021 season rejected an offer to extend his contract with the Lakers for four years and $84 million.
Last season, the 29-year-old first played for the Boston Celtics and then for the Houston Rockets.
"It's an honor to play for the Lakers"
“I'll give everything I have, every single day.
It's an honor to play for the Lakers," Schroeder wrote.
"I can't wait to get started." Lakers Vice President Rob Pelinka said, "We're very excited to welcome Dennis Schröder back to the Lakers."
Before that, however, Schröder still has an important task to master at the home European Championships in Germany.
On Sunday (5.15 p.m. / RTL and Magentasport) it is against Poland for the first German medal in 17 years.
It's the bronze medal match after Germany won gold in 1993 and silver in 2005.
Schröder is the captain of the German selection.
In the semi-final against Spain on Friday evening he scored a strong 30 points.
But he and his team missed the final with a score of 91:96.
