After a defeat against Marseille last week, the Mastiffs raised their heads on Saturday at the Pierre Mauroy stadium, against Toulouse if they

A duel of top 10 contenders that ultimately creates a big gap in the standings.

On Saturday, Lille mastered its subject to defeat Toulouse FC at Stade Pierre Mauroy (2-1).

Jonathan David launched the Mastiffs perfectly before Adam Ounas scored a very fine goal in the second period.

This success revived Lille a week after their defeat in Marseille, while Toulouse plunged again after winning against Reims in their last match.

The Violets therefore go down one place in the standings (12th, 8 points), while LOSC temporarily jumps to 6th place in Ligue 1 (13 points).

What you must remember

A very enjoyable game to watch.

There was play in the North.

Between a dangerous Toulouse in sequences and a Lille in control most of the time, the two teams, geographically opposite but very close in the standings, fought a great battle.

Despite a start to the match with a very active and effective Toulouse pressing, it was the Lille who opened the scoring, on their first real opportunity.

A jewel of Jonathan David from the 5th minute of play. Behind, Téfécé experienced a highlight at the end of the first period, without however managing to concretize it.

We had to wait until the second act for this to be the case.

Returning from the locker room with offensive intentions, the Toulouse team came back to 1-1 from the 48th minute.

On a bad raise from José Fonte, Thijs Dallinga found Farès Chaibi in the back, and he was quick to send a missile into the opposing net.

But this renewed energy and hope was short-lived, as Adam Ounas allowed the Mastiffs to regain control with a superb back-to-goal volley after a deep pass over the defense of Benjamin André (53rd).

Player: Jonathan David

It didn't take him long to find his bearings, Saturday evening, in his lair at Pierre Mauroy.

On his first ball in the offensive zone, and while Toulouse made a very good start to the match, Jonathan David was perfectly launched in depth by Angel Gomes on the right side.

The Canadian striker then found himself in a duel with Rasmus Nicolaisen.

A favorable counter later, the ball came to nestle in the opposite skylight, sublimely deposited by a rolled up left foot (5th).

This is David's 5th goal in 8 games.

If we were to bring out a downside to his match, the Canadian lacked altruism on a counter-attack while two of his partners were unmarked on his right (59th).

The declaration: "It's a deserved victory"

Jonathan David on Canal+: “It's a deserved victory I think, it was a difficult match, they played well and caused us problems.

But we were able to stay strong defensively and effective up front.

We are frustrated to take this goal and we wanted to react directly, which we did.

We lost points in these first 8 games that we played, but we are happy to move up in the standings.
