The former captain of the England national team was seen waiting for long hours to pay his last respects and see the coffin of the Queen of England who passed away last week at the age of 96 • "I was very lucky to meet her several times during my career," he told reporters

Former England captain and who currently serves as one of the owners of Inter Miami - David Beckham - joined the thousands who waited in line to see Queen Elizabeth II in Arona, yesterday (Friday).

Beckham, 47, was spotted as the giant formed on the streets of London as mourners looked to get one last glimpse of the Queen's coffin at Westminster Hall before her funeral on Monday.

The former Manchester United midfielder said he had been queuing since around 2.15am when he was interviewed by news crews.

He talked about snacking on crisps, sweets and donuts to keep energy up.

Television footage from Westminster Hall showed Beckham, who has met the Queen several times during her 70-year reign, appearing tearful as he waited to walk past her coffin.

He stopped to pay his respects at the casket around 3:25 p.m.

Beckham bowed his head and closed his eyes for a moment.

In 2003, Beckham received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) from the Queen for his services to the England team when he often spoke of his pride in singing "God Save The Queen" before matches with the Three Lions.

"I grew up in a royal household and was brought up that way, so if my grandparents were here today, I know they would want to be here so I'm here on their behalf and my family name and of course I wanted to be present with all the people here," Beckham told ITV News.

"I've been very lucky because of the amount of times I've been able to meet her in my career, to represent my country, to be the captain of my country. Every time we've stood there and put on those Three Lions shirts and I've got my armband and we're singing 'God Save Our Queen ', it was something that was so important to us and every time we did it, it was something special.

Beckham made 115 appearances for England from 1996 to 2009 and scored 17 goals for his country, appearing in three World Cup tournaments.

He won six Premier League titles and the Champions League when, among others, he also starred for Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, Milan and PSG.
