SC Paderborn surprisingly lost 1: 2 (0: 1) against bottom SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
It was the first win of the season for Fürth, which jumped to 17th place.
Due to the defeat, Paderborn could not push HSV back from the top of the table.
After six games without a win, Jahn Regensburg celebrated a 2-0 (2-0) home win against FC St. Pauli.
Despite being outnumbered, 1. FC Heidenheim couldn't get past a 2-2 (2-1) win over Kaiserslautern.
Fürth coach Marc Schneider was under pressure after eight games in a row without a win - and now the top team from Paderborn came.
But Schneider's team showed commitment from the start.
Dickson Abiama's crossbar was the first signal (20'), Damian Michalski then headed a Simon Asta cross into the right corner (42').
Paderborn answered right after the break: Marvin Pieringer played into Dennis Srbeny's run, who scored to make it 1-1.
However, Fürth was not discouraged and was rewarded: Max Christiansen placed across the penalty area at Branimir Hrgota, who shot through the legs of Ron Schallenberg, who deflected to make it 2-1 (73rd).
With Kaiserslautern, one of the best offensives in the league met the strongest defense in Heidenheim.
Goalkeeper mistakes on both sides were decisive for the game: after Jan-Niklas Beste made it 1-0 (18'), Heidenheim keeper Kevin Müller sailed under a corner just two minutes later.
Terrence Boyd capitalized on the mistake and headed in to make it 1-1.
After that, Kaiserslautern's goalkeeper veteran Andreas Luthe made a blunder: When running out, he misjudged and brought down Beste - red card.
Marlon Busch converted the free kick from 22 meters over the wall into the left angle – a dream goal to make it 2:1 (44th).
Despite being outnumbered and under great pressure from Heidenheim, Kaiserslautern equalized 2-2 after an intercepted ball by Boyd (60').
In Regensburg, the clubs with the winless series met.
St. Pauli had been waiting for a sense of achievement for four games, and Jahn hadn't won or scored in six games.
After a VAR decision, Andreas Albers converted a penalty kick (8th) to lead 1-0.
Shortly before the break, the Jahn attacker (41st) increased the preliminary decision.
Match winner Albers again had the greatest chance of the second half, but Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj was able to deflect his long-range shot over the crossbar (87').
