SV Werder Bremen drew 1-1 against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga game – once again a late goal saved the draw.

The game report of the DeichStube.

Leverkusen – It was hard work and in the end

SV Werder Bremen

was rewarded for their hard work:

Head coach Ole Werner's team fought a 1-1 (0-0) draw at

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

on Saturday afternoon, with the man the day's name from Bremen's point of view was

Milos Veljkovic

.

With his late equalizer, the Serb made his team celebrate, which had to survive a number of tricky situations before and after - but always remained dangerous on their part.

Werder Bremen against Bayer Leverkusen: Early chances go unused - header on the crossbar

Ole Werner

caused a little surprise with his starting line-up

before the game by leaving new signing Jens Stage out again.

For the Dane, who has been going back and forth between the bench and the pitch for weeks now, Ilia Gruev moved into the starting eleven, which suggested a more defensive orientation in Bremen.

In the run-up to the game, Werner had also urgently warned against the high speed of the Leverkusen game - and that was actually seen several times during the first half.

However,

Werder Bremen

also repeatedly put courageous accents on the offensive and posed problems for the home side with their advances.

There was a lot of activity in both penalty areas right from the start.

Patrik Schick (2nd/8th) for

Bayer Leverkusen

and Marvin Ducksch (1st) and Ilia Gruev (10th) for

Werder Bremen

had chances early on, but they didn't take them.

Against the Werkself, who had gained new self-confidence during the week with a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Werder then presented themselves as well organized on the defensive and

only allowed a little out of the

game .

Consequently, it was a corner kick that gave Leverkusen the greatest opportunity to date: After a cross from Kerem Demirbay, Robert Andrich headed the ball against the

crossbar

(35').

Werder Bremen against Bayer Leverkusen: Kerem Demirbay scores for the lead for Leverkusen

The scene was the start of gripping minutes until the break whistle, in which the hosts became more and more dangerous, but

Werder Bremen

found answers.

After Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka blocked a shot forward by Moussa Diaby, Jeremie Frimpong should have made it 1-0, but put the ball wide of the goal - lucky for Pavlenka, whose mistake had no consequences (39th).

On the other side, Marvin Ducksch only hit the side netting after a counterattack (40'), before his strike partner Niclas Füllkrug appeared free in front of the goal shortly afterwards, but found his master in Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky from an acute angle (41').

Seconds later, Pavlenka prevented Bremen from falling behind against Diaby (42').

Then there was a break.

After the restart, things continued without hesitation, with both teams looking for a direct path forward.

Edmond Tapsoba first saved against Füllkrug (53') at the last moment, before the ball was in the goal a little later - but on the other side.

Kerem Demirbay put

Bayer Leverkusen

ahead with a sensitive shot into the far corner

(57th).

Bitter for

Werder Bremen

: The team conceded the goal outnumbered because Mitchell Weiser had to be treated off the field and only returned to the pitch after the restart.

Werder Bremen against Bayer Leverkusen: Milos Veljkovic scores in the closing stages to equalize

Ole Werner

then increased the risk and introduced an additional striker in Oliver Burke (for Christian Groß) (69').

In addition, Lee Buchanan replaced the weak Anthony Jung.

But Bayer Leverkusen

again had the next big chances

: In the 71st minute, Pavlenka saved with a foot defense against Adam Hlozek, then Diaby didn't aim exactly enough (74th).

So Werder Bremen

stayed in the game – and mercilessly punished the opponent's lack of chance evaluation.

After a Ducksch corner, Füllkrug headed the ball onto goal before Hradecky played a slapstick.

The keeper slapped the ball right in front of

Milos Veljkovic

's feet , who equalized from close range – 1:1 (82nd).

On the other hand, Sardar Azmoun almost quickly suffocated the Bremen friends again.

However, his header landed on the crossbar (88th).

On the other hand, with a bit of luck, Burke could have almost scored Bremen's winning goal (90'+6').

Shortly thereafter, the point win was then sealed.

After seven games this season,

Werder Bremen

now have a respectable nine points and are in mid-table.

The next opponent after the international break is Borussia Mönchengladbach (Saturday, October 1, 6:30 p.m.).

86 min:

Werder remains poisonous!

78 min:

Now both teams are taking a little break.

Werder should change that as soon as possible, time is ticking for the Werkself.

74 min:

Diaby puts the ball on his left foot in the penalty area and thus misses Friedl, the shot rushes past the long corner by a hair's breadth.

It fits in the middle, but nobody is standing there.

71 min: Big chance for Bayer 04!

Hlozek is through after a pass and is on the left in front of his compatriot Pavlenka, who saves with his foot!

This standard does not pose any danger either.

66. Min.

After a foul on Füllkrug there is a free kick, 25 meters from the goal.

Ducksch tries it directly, Hradecky saves the ball.

65 min:

Suddenly Diaby appears half-right in front of Pavlenka, but the keeper is more on the ball at the decisive moment, so that it only remains 0-1 from Werder's point of view.

64 min:

Friedl creates some space in the middle and tries from 20 meters, the ball goes over it, but was deflected.

The following corner fizzles out.

Bremen's next chance: Füllkrug comes into the final position with a header, but Werder remains goalless.

59 min:

Werder Bremen against Bayer Leverkusen in the live ticker: Niclas Füllkrug fritters away a great opportunity, Leverkusen scores

58 min:

Outnumbered, it is Füllkrug, who does not cover the approaching Demirbay with a ball from the right to the Bremen penalty area, so that he can accept the ball and flick into the far corner from a half-right position in the penalty area.

57 min: Goal for Leverkusen, the hosts take a 1-0 lead, Demirbay scores.

56 min:

Bremen is currently outnumbered because Weiser is being treated outside.

53 min: It MUST be 1-0 for Werder!

Ducksch takes the ball and then puts it through to Füllkrug, who runs into the penalty area, runs and runs and runs – and is run off at the expense of a corner.

When he shoots it becomes dangerous, but he obviously wanted to carry the ball into the goal.

51 min:

The two teams seem to have had enough of the offensive, they play patiently, have possession of the ball and build up again.

Little is happening at the moment as a result.

48 min:

Füllkrug is sent to the right, gets air in the penalty area with a hook, lifts his head and sees Gruev in the center of the penalty area.

However, he does not take the ball straight away, but first takes the ball again, which gives Leverkusen the chance to block the opportunity.

Nice attack.

46 min: The game is running again.

4:33 p.m .:

The teams return to the pitch and continue immediately.

4:17 p.m .: That was it, Tobias Welz asks both teams to go to the cabins for a meeting.

It was an entertaining game up to this point, especially in the last ten minutes.

Both sides have chances, a lot of fighting but no goals yet.

45. + 1:

In the one-minute added time, Gruev is just offside after a Ducksch free-kick.

43 min:

The pressure on Werder's defense remains high, especially in the form of Frimpong, who falls twice on the edge of the box and wants a penalty, but rightly so he doesn't get it both times.

Theoretically, one could even consider yellow.

42 min:

In return, Diaby has the next chance, Pavlenka parries the unplaced shot.

41 min: Just a minute later, it's Füllkrug, who can pull free-standing, this time Hradecky holds.

Something's going on here!

40 min: Ducksch is through and shoots the ball from an acute angle only to the outside net!

Werder Bremen against Bayer Leverkusen in the live ticker: goalless usury in the first half

39 min: Great luck for Werder!

Diaby counters, shakes the guest defense and shoots from 15 meters.

Pavlenka saves, but right in front of Frimpong's feet, who manages to put the ball to the outside of the post from close range!

That must be 1-0 for Bayer 04!

35 min: The following corner kick becomes extremely dangerous, because Andrich comes to the header from eleven yards and thunders the ball to the crossbar!

Lucky for the guests!

35 min:

It continues on the other side: Frimpong is played on the right and just tries it, Friedl saves Werder from imminent disaster with a tackle.

33 min:

Schmid remains conspicuous, drives the ball forward on a counterattack, could play out left and right, but then just tries it himself, but is blocked.

32 min:

Füllkrug gets the ball and tries a single action.

Had his degree come on target, Hradecky could have caught the ball with his cap.

But since he misses his target, the goalkeeper lets the ball roll out of bounds.

30 min:

Leverkusen have largely taken control here, Werder tries to counterattack.

However, the hosts remain more dangerous and with more offensive actions.

28 min:

Jung picks up the offside with a lobbed pass to Tapsoba.

However, he hits the ball clearly over the goal.

27 min:

Schmid tactically fouls Hudson-Odoi and sees yellow for it.

26 min:

Groß fights the ball in Bayer's forward movement, Füllkrug wants to use Ducksch, but his pass gets a little too much in the back of his strike partner.

24 min:

Werder counters first, but does not come into the final position.

Instead, Leverkusen get the chance to counterattack, but Friedl is alert and grabs the ball.

Demirbay subsequently received a yellow card for a foul on the Werder counterattack.

22nd min:

Hincapie tries an overhead kick after the second corner kick, which is easy prey for Pavlenka.

21st min:

Jung loses the ball against Frimpong on the center line, Friedl stops him at the last moment in the penalty area, since both pull and pull there is no penalty, only a corner.

It brings nothing.

19 min:

Demirbay tries a free kick for Bayer 04, but clearly misses the goal.

17 min:

Schmid is played on the right, has some space and puts the ball in the box, but a little too far for his teammates.

9 min:

Schmidt refuels in the penalty area, but misses the time for the play and is expired.

8 min:

Now Pavlenka has to intervene for the first time!

Schick gets the ball in the penalty area, has a little space, turns and shoots.

This conclusion also has power, Pavlenka lets him clap forward, the people in front then rectify the situation.

7 min:

Leverkusen's Diaby twice tries to pass into the penalty area, but is blocked both times.

5.Min:

Schmid looks for the way forward, but as soon as Werder is in possession of the ball, Leverkusen retreats deeply, blocks the spaces and makes the task for the conductor in the Werder game tricky.

2. Min:

A team also reports in the game on the other side: Schick is released, is free on the left in the sixteen, but the angle is acute, so that his powerful conclusion only lands on the outside net.

He hopes to be able to “push the upward trend back a week” with his team.

Of course, this only applies to the Bundesliga, because in the Champions League Bayer Leverkusen defeated a team of high international format 2-0 with Atletico Madrid during the week.

3:10 p.m .:

Leverkusen’s start to the season has been bad so far, the hosts are second to last in the table with just one win in six games.

Bayer 04 lost all three games at home, where they are obviously very vulnerable.

3:03 p.m .:

What’s in it for Werder today?

Sixth place in the table at best, but of course a win would have to be achieved today and the competition for Cologne (Sunday in Bochum) as well as in the direct duel between Leipzig and Gladbach.

There are only three points down to the relegation place, but too many teams in between so that there is no acute danger.

2:54 p.m .:

2:47 p.m .:

This series may well continue after today's game.

Tobias Welz will be primarily responsible for accompanying the game as neutrally as possible.

Benedikt Kempkes and Jonas Weickenmeier assist him, fourth official is Florian Badstübner.

The video assistant is called Robert Kampka, the video assistant assistant is Markus Sinn.

To the preliminary report:

Speed control 2.0: SV Werder Bremen wants to show Bayer Leverkusen that they have learned from mistakes

Denn ausrechenbar will niemand gerne sein.

Werder Bremen gegen Bayer Leverkusen live: Trainer Ole Werner will Niederlage verhindern - Team muss ans Limit gehen

have more opportunities to press.

But that alone is not enough for Werner.

"For us, the following issues are very important: timing, compactness and recognizing game phases combined with the question of when I should start high or defend rather low." After all, Bremen don't want to fall into the Frankfurt trap again.

Otherwise the away trip to Leverkusen would quickly go to waste.

Unlike in training, the fun would be pretty low.
