Same script, different ending

In the friendly against EXA Icefighters Leipzig, SC Riessersee conceded an unnecessary defeat after a penalty shoot-out, because SCR is the better team over long stretches.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Déjà-vu of the quick kind. Within three days, SC Riessersee faced EXA Icefighters Leipzig in a friendly.

Again, the white-blues were superior to the guests, they had to run after a deficit again, they equalized again, it went into overtime again and also into a penalty shootout.

But the end was different this time.

Riessersee drew the short straw with 3:4.

The second friendly defeat was also due to the fact that Pat Cortina's prediction came true.

The SCR coach wanted to experiment in the duels with Leipzig, try out different systems.

Accordingly, he warned in advance that chaos could reign on the ice.

That was also the case, but it was less due to the fact that the hosts used aggressive forechecking, sometimes with one player, sometimes with two, and sometimes only received the opponent in the neutral zone.

Rather, the chaos was due to the lack of concentration of his players.

It developed into a very respectable little game, but it couldn't shine.

The SCR acted too sloppy in the passing game, too imprecisely in the end and without the right timing in forechecking.

Leipzig, meanwhile, relied on wall tactics with its mini-squad – five defenders, nine forwards –

repeatedly retreated to his own third with five men at lightning speed.

It worked from the guests' point of view, but it was also due to the lack of precision from Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Accordingly, it was 0:0 after third one.

At the beginning of the second period, Cortina noted the 0:1 with a grumpy look.

Leipzig met outnumbered.

The facial expressions of the SCR trainer quickly relaxed again because Uli Maurer made it 1-1.

About nine minutes later, a grin crossed his face because he saw something that was exactly to his liking.

The SCR made it out quickly from behind.

With two contacts over two stations, the disc landed at Robin Soudek and he soberly marked the 2:1.

Behind the timing table, Pana Christakakis celebrated the goal with an explosive celebration.

The managing director of the SCR acted in the extension with similar gestures but with a completely different intention.

Moritz Israel received a five-minute plus match penalty after a confusing action including a Klinsch with Leipzig's Willy Rudert.

This made Christakakis boil over.

He banged angrily against the plexiglass pane and railed at the team of referees around Vladislav Gossmann: "Every year the same shit with you!" Christakakis then had to leave the stadium and the SCR played the final two minutes in a three-on-four game.

Previously, Leipzig - again in the majority - marked the 2: 2 and also equalized the 3: 2 of Israel.

In the extra time, the Riesserseer defended themselves as best they could and cleverly kept the guests away from their own goal.

So, like on Friday in Leipzig, the penalty shoot-out had to decide.

The script from Friday seemed to have been copied in that too.

The first Riessersee shooter - this time Kevin Slezak - scored.

Two Leipzigers failed because of SCR goalie Michael Boehm, but the third was successful.

Likewise the fifth, while the hosts Alexander Höller, Lubor Dibelka, Uli Maurer and Soudek awarded.

In the end, the Riesserseers suffered an avoidable defeat.

Because they created enough chances against the defensive artists from Leipzig.
