After a true thriller, the handball players of SpVgg Altenerding were able to look forward to a successful start to the regional league season.
Altenerding – At SC Eching there was a razor-thin 28:27 (15:13) success, and coach Peter Mesiarik was very satisfied with the lack of personnel: “Today everyone fought from the first to the last minute.
Some had to go through it, they deserve my special thanks.”
After Simon Rüdiger canceled shortly before the game due to a problem with his thumb, there were finally no alternatives in the backcourt.
Niklas Fleps, Christian Loris and, despite his weakness after a corona infection, Severin Lößl hardly got a breather.
After all, Joseph Wyhnalek returned in time after his vacation practically at the last second and strengthened the troupe.
In the first period, the lead changed constantly at first, and with an 8:8, it remained balanced until 13:13.
In the last few minutes, the guests scored two goals for a narrow lead at the break.
In addition to the established players, some young talents were also able to enjoy their first minutes in the BOL.
Jakob Köhler and Tim Steininger in particular showed good performances.
The latter should play an important role shortly before the end.
After a weak phase from the 20:18, the Altenerdinger conceded four goals in a row, but were not deterred by the 20:22 deficit.
The Mesiarik men continued to give full throttle and the game remained hotly contested.
After the 26:26, the strong pivot Quirin Huber managed to take the lead again, and in the final minute Steininger made the preliminary decision with his goal to make it 28:26.
The Altenerdingers also have to thank goalkeeper Finn Engelking, who shone with some strong saves in the final phase.
The people from Echingen only managed to get the first goal, the two points went to Altenerding.
Mesiarik's conclusion: "In view of the squad, it's just great that we made it." The two points are also immensely important for self-confidence.
Because in the next two weeks, Freising and Altötting, the two most difficult challenges of this season are waiting: "Hopefully I'll have a better squad available for that," said the Altenerdinger coach.
