It was the pictures that no sports fan likes to see: Nina O'Brien falls heavily in giant slalom, now the ski professional is back, with emotional words.
Lake Placid - It was a small mistake that changed Nina O'Brien's life for seven months.
The skier threaded the last gate in the giant slalom at the Olympic Games in Beijing and fell badly.
A terrible fall just before the finish line.
The winter sports enthusiasts held their breath for a moment.
Lara Gut-Behrami, who was waiting at the finish as the leader, put her hand over her mouth.
The shock was deep.
O'Brien was at the finish, holding her leg.
Diagnosis: broken tibia and fibula, a lightning operation in China followed, as accompanying material the bad photos of her leg, which was only held together with screws.
February 2022 was associated with pain, but in September O'Brien can already pursue new goals, as she shared with her fans on Instagram.

She edited a video of her seven months of suffering, many pictures are only for the hardened.
She wrote: "Just passed my last stress test, I can ski again," the 24-year-old describes her emotional time when she was in rehab, had to slow down and learned a lot, adding: "Thanks to everyone, it doesn't matter whether near or far, who have stood by me all along.
Special thanks to the excellent team of doctors, therapists and sponsors who treated me like family.”

At the end of her post, she adds: "I still have a long way to go, but now the fun part begins.
And WOOW, I'm happy to be back.” Hope for a new beginning sprouts from her lines.
The North American ski world was enthralled by the words, with almost everyone of any rank commenting.
Former alpine skier Daron Rahlves wrote: "The fortune cookie says... Your determination, perseverance and effort will pay off." Alice Merryweather, who herself had a bad fall and shared horrifying pictures of her facial injuries, wrote: "Yay, you're amazing.
I learn from your strength and your heart.” Bella Wright, Resi Stiegler and Mikaela Shiffrin, among many others, also came forward and welcomed O'Brien's words.
