Tiktuknu: Summary of the day in sports, 20.9 (Sport1)

Two significant changes are expected to take effect in the new collective agreement between the NBA players' organization and the league's management, according to a report published yesterday (Monday) by "The Athletic" reporter Shams Charania.

As part of the contract that will enter into force in 2024, the players will be able to justify their absence from games with mental problems, and not just physical ones, meaning that mental difficulties will be considered a legitimate reason for ineligibility for the game and the teams will not be able to demand that the players come up to play when they claim such problems, so that not only injuries will justify an absence.

This change is intended to prevent a situation like the one that happened with Ben Simmons at the beginning of last season, when the Australian point guard claimed he could not play because he was not at his best mentally, and the Philadelphia Sixers fined him for every game he missed.

Later, the parties reached a financial settlement following a complaint filed by Simmons.

As we know, senior stars in the league, such as DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Love, have revealed during the last few years their dealings with mental crises, out of a desire to raise awareness around the issue.

Another significant change expected in the agreement is the lowering of the minimum age for selection in the draft to 18, and the return of the option to select players from high school leagues, as was the case until 2005. That year, the NBA decided to require players who graduated from high school to play at least one year in college before being allowed to register for the draft .

In 2024, Brony James will already be able to make himself available for selection in any case, since he will then be 19 years old, but the one who may benefit from the change is the second son of LeBron James, 15-year-old Bryce Maximus, that the change in the agreement could be a year ahead of His entry into the league, assuming he will fit in professionally of course.

LeBron recently stated in an interview with "Sports Illustrated" that he dreams of collaborating with his two children on the same team before he hangs up his shoes and ends his professional career.

As you may remember, players like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard and Amar'e Stoudemire were among those who made the jump from high school directly to the NBA, and became first-class stars in the best league in the world.
