Due to the sporting crisis, the Bayern stars are currently taking a lot of criticism.

Mario Basler hands out against Thomas Müller.

Munich – Weakest start to the season in over a decade, biggest earnings crisis in around 20 years, newcomers like Sadio Mané in the form crisis – the mood at Bayern Munich has been better.

As much as players and coaches are praised after their successes, the pendulum swings in the other direction when things don't work out.

And currently the German record champion is getting his fat off from all sides due to the sporting descent (four games without a win, bankruptcy in Augsburg).

Basler demands Gnabry and etches against Müller: "Get out with that!"

Sky expert Didi Hamann recently picked the superstar in Bayern's squad, Sadio Mané, to illustrate Munich's offensive problems.

For Hamann, the Senegalese looks like a "foreign body" in the Bayern game.

Ex-FCB player Mario Basler sees the reason for the currently stuttering offensive in Munich in another player: Thomas Müller.

"A Thomas Müller who is completely out of shape - out with him!" demands Basler in

Sport1

-Program "Rudi Brückner - the talk".

To attribute the offensive problems of the Bayern team only to Müller is probably too short-sighted.

Nevertheless, it is noticeable that the now 33-year-old has been able to set fewer offensive accents in the past few games than one is actually used to from him.

Müller then described the feeling after the bankruptcy against Augsburg as "powerless".

The statistics also speak for themselves: if you disregard the DFB Cup game against third division team Viktoria Köln, Müller hasn't scored a goal or provided an assist in seven games.

According to Basler, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann instead of Müller should "give Serge Gnabry a chance and not always just those who have been at Bayern for 20 years." Gnabry, who was seen in a rap video with Müller a few weeks ago , currently has three goals and four assists from eleven games across all competitions.

However, he was only on the pitch for more than 90 minutes once - in the cup game against Cologne.

Of the seven league games, Gnabry was only allowed to play three times from the start, in the premier class he was only substituted on in the final phase.

Basler: "Müller's form is no longer what it used to be"

With regard to the national team and the upcoming World Cup in November, Basler currently sees other players ahead of Müller.

"In terms of football, İlkay Gündoğan is a class better than Thomas Müller," said the 53-year-old on the

Sport1

show against Weilheimer.

"Musiala and Sané have to play, Kai Havertz is also up front for me."

One thing is certain: Müller should continue to play a key role for national coach Hansi Flick, especially as a coordinating mouthpiece on the pitch.

And isn't Müller the player who, with his experience of 116 international matches, can provide calm and structure, especially in the important games?

Basler disagrees.

"I think Müller's form at the World Cup, in big games, isn't what it used to be."

The next international matches against Hungary on Friday and against England on Monday will show what role Müller plays in Flick's plans.

The two games in the Nations League are the last competitive games for the DFB team before the World Cup begins in November.
