Ousmane Dembele is finally starting to pay bills.
The Barcelona winger has so far provided two goals and four assists in all competitions this season, including quite a few magical moments that reminded why the Catalans paid no less than 125 million euros for him in the summer of 2017. It took time - Dembele was often injured, absent from training, did not invest according to from his coaches, but now, with Xavi, and at the age of 25, he seems ripe to make the long-awaited step up.
"My first five years in Barcelona? I was young, like everyone else," he said in an interview with French media.
"Somehow I managed to get out of that situation, and not many people thought I would. From 2017 to 2021 I wasted a lot of time. I wasted five years of my life. I had a lot of hamstring injuries, and if you don't work, you might get hurt, I was told I had to get stronger" .
The turning points came with the changes of coaches - first Ronald Koeman, and now Xavi: "With them it got better. Since Koeman, I haven't had any injuries. Xavi's confidence made me stay here. I really want to win the Champions League with Barcelona, I feel It's good here and I feel like the whole club trusts me. Now everyone's talking about football, and that's what's important."

Frankie de Jong was also asked about his status in Barcelona after he was already a foot and a half out of the team, and claimed: "I always wanted to stay at the club, and that's why I wasn't stressed in the summer. Sometimes two sides don't agree with each other, but in the end everything worked out. When I'm not I play a lot, I notice it about myself, especially in the physical aspect."
On the addition of Robert Lewandowski, the Dutch said: "He is a very nice person and one of the best players in the world, he is a complete striker. He is strong, can hold the ball, his technical ability is very good."
