Max Kruse was not in the stadium on Sunday, but the striker who was sorted out by coach Niko Kovač at VfL Wolfsburg was an issue when Lower Saxony lost 2-0 at Union Berlin.
Also with the fans of the hosts, for whom Kruse was active from 2020 to 2022.
"You don't stand a chance without Kruse!" Sang the league leaders' supporters, which made the 34-year-old very happy, as he now announced via Instagram.
"I won't forget what happened over the weekend," Kruse said in a cell phone video.
“I heard what the fans were singing.
It's a nice feeling to hear something like that from the fans of a team where you used to play.
Therefore: many, many thanks.«
According to Kruse, there was also a small police operation in front of his house in Berlin on Monday night because some Union fans had ignited Bengalos and thus called the neighbors into action.
Kruse thanked him for that too.
Already before because of lack of identification in the criticism
In his justification for Kruse's suspension, coach Kovač criticized that the striker no longer identified sufficiently with his employer.
“We demand 100% identification and concentration from every player with a focus on VfL.
We didn't have that feeling with Max," Kovač said a week earlier on Sky TV.
The 34-year-old ex-national player then contradicted Kovač and pointed out that he had switched from the better off Berliners to VfL in January "to help the team".
However, when he changed in January, Kruse had already asked Union fans to understand that he had accepted an offer “that was long-term and highly remunerated”.
Kovač's predecessor Florian Kohfeldt, with whom Kruse had already worked at Werder Bremen, is said to have played an important role in his decision to change.
