The discussion is in full swing: Should TSV 1860 Munich play in the Olympic Stadium?

However, Dieter Reiter's suggestion has some problems.

Munich – Despite the sporting success, TSV 1860 Munich is not completely satisfied.

The stadium question is difficult and also divides the fan scene.

The Grünwalder stadium is a place of worship, but according to the lions, it costs a lot of money.

The catering in the Grünwalder is awarded by the city, 1860 Munich has to cart batteries in to run the perimeter advertising and the ticket prices include a ticket for the MVV: the lions’ list of money guzzlers for the Grünwalder stadium is long.

Marc-Nicolai Pfeiffer, commercial director of TSV 1860, calculates a competitive disadvantage of 1.7 million euros.

After all, the city of Munich definitely wants to accommodate the club when it comes to marketing the rights to the name.

2nd league in Grünwalder?

Reiter recommends the Olympic Stadium in 1860 - but how is the situation there?

While the club has been quarreling with the city for years over expansion, renovation, suitability for the second division and profit opportunities, there is a second cult place at Oberwiesenfeld.

Mayor Dieter Reiter recently brought the Olympic Stadium back into the discussion.

The lions would "break down revolving doors" if they wanted to play their home games there again, said the SPD politician on the first Oktoberfest weekend.

After all, the city spent a lot of money to renovate the Olympic Stadium.

It is "madness" that nobody uses it.

Reiter ignores the often sparsely attended games of Türkgücü Munich.

Olympic Stadium is a construction site - 1860 relocation to Oberwiesenfeld by 2027 is not really an option

“The lions have to make a decision internally first,” warns Reiter.

Where are you going now?

The heart of Grünwalder or commerce in the Olympic Stadium?

"If it's more economical at another location, there's nothing wrong with that," admitted 1860 President Reisinger, who would prefer to stay in Giesing.

But how realistic are the mind games around the Olympic Stadium?

And how much profit does the Oberwiesenfeld site promise?

The fact is: the Olympic Stadium will be a construction site for at least another five years.

The tent roof will be renovated for around 84 million euros.

And meanwhile a lot is being done in the stadium.

130 million euros flow into heating, sanitary facilities and fire protection.

After all, the floodlights were already completed before the European Championships.

1860 from Grünwalder to the Olympic Stadium?

Places not covered - lions could not use capacity

However, the roof remains the biggest problem for second division football in the Olympic Stadium.

Because even after the refurbishment, it will not be stretched over all the seats.

However, the requirements of the DFL stipulate a complete roof in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The maximum number of viewers is already shrinking from 70,000 to around 35,000.

And that ideally.

Olympiapark GmbH has already confirmed to the

Münchner Abendzeitung

that half of the covered area will have to be closed for the next two years.

This would suddenly make the capacity in the Olympic Stadium comparable to that of the Grünwalder Stadium.

But does the Olympic Stadium even get the green light from the association?

The city confirms that the suitability for the second division was never seriously examined.

The condition is probably too bad for an unconditional license.

Olympic Stadium closed from 2025: The lion move would not be permanent anyway

From 2025, however, all simulation games will be banned again for 20 months anyway.

Then the Olympic Stadium will be closed, and renovation work will have to be carried out that cannot be carried out during ongoing operations.

This project was already decided in 2015.

At least until then, Olympiapark GmbH did not expect TSV 1860 Munich either.

A number of concerts and events are already planned for 2023, and there would only be a few places for lion games.

A move by TSV 1860 could end up being more difficult than going through the revolving door.

The Olympiastadion GmbH makes it clear that unrestricted use is not possible until the end of the construction work.

But if everything goes well, you can talk about individual games.

The lions at Türkgücü Munich can ask what it's like to commute between Giesing and Oberwiesenfeld.
