Bundesliga club Hertha BSC has to do without Jean-Paul Boëtius.
A urological examination on Wednesday diagnosed a tumor in the testicles of the Dutch summer arrival, the club announced on Thursday.
The 28-year-old midfielder will have surgery on Friday.
"As bitter as this news is at first, we are full of hope and confidence that Jean-Paul will recover and return to our circle as soon as possible," said Sporting Director Fredi Bobic, "until he returns, he will get every one of us any support.«
Boëtius is the fourth known case of testicular cancer in the Bundesliga in the recent past.
Marco Richter, a Hertha professional with testicular cancer, had recently dropped out (read Richter's conversation with SPIEGEL here).
The winger has been back on the pitch for a few games and has scored two goals since his comeback.
Baumgartl back, Haller return still open
Union Berlin's Timo Baumgartl was diagnosed with a tumor last season.
After chemotherapy, subsequent rehabilitation and rehabilitation training, the 26-year-old defender celebrated his comeback in the Bundesliga last weekend.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast forward has also undergone chemotherapy.
