Around 900 participants turn the event, which is well organized by Trisport Erding, into a large sports festival.

The winners surprise with their actions before and after the race.

Erding

– Okay, Berlin had its marathon world record man on Sunday, but the 19th Erdinger Stadtlauf also had very special winners.

Eichenrieder Roman Schindlbeck, for example, didn't have much time to savor his success over five kilometers because he started over ten kilometers less than half an hour later.

Katarina Denkova's preparation took place at the Wiesn.

And a mother of two and a physics student won more than ten kilometers, both of whom admitted: They love beer.

And as it is on the tip of the iceberg, so it is below the victory podium: 896 participants deliver many little stories, and the officials too.

Turned in the wrong direction

For Franz Groß, the 19th was also the last city run.

In the future, someone else will ride a bike in front of the first runners, he announced.

And then he experienced something new.

In the U8 run, the leader sped across the long line and turned right.

“Fortunately there was a spectator standing there and stopped him.

Otherwise everyone would have run after the boy and I would have been left alone with the bike.”

Whiz, celebrate, cheer on dad

Lorenz Mittermaier from Siggenhofen celebrated a start-finish victory over the 800-meter distance.

The seven-year-old was there for the first time and immediately took to his feet.

He caught his breath after the sprint to the finish line, then the F youth footballer at DJK Ottenhofen was alert again.

After all, it was time to cheer on Papa Christian for the ten-kilometer run.

The latter was true for many young athletes.

And they often did their job very well, such as Valentina (7) and Victoria (9) Humbert, who first competed with their friends from the Montessori school and then experienced how Papa Volker achieved his targeted 40:40 minutes just missed.

He was even two seconds faster, not bad for a 51-year-old.

The oldest was also a ski jumper

Which brings us to Rocket Mane.

That's what moderator Hartwig Thöne called Manfred Anneser from Freising, who at 81 was the oldest but by no means the slowest.

With 57:42.8 min he easily stayed under the one-hour mark.

But it bothered him a bit that he couldn't break the Upper Bavarian M 80 record of 57:40 minutes.

Small consolation: he keeps it himself anyway.

Anneser's secret of success: running four times a week.

But that's not all. Cycling and aqua jogging in summer.

"Just don't get too one-sided," he advised, who played football for SG Eichenfeld for 25 years and was also a big name in ski jumping and cross-country skiing.

No wonder that the readers of the Freisinger Tagblatt gave him second place in the athletes' choice.

Presenter, dad and city run fan

But let's get back to moderator Thöne, who accompanies runs and triathlons throughout Germany and has long been part of the inventory in Erding.

This time, however, he was particularly excited.

The reason: For the first time, two of his children took part in the city run.

Thöne, full-time at Sport 1, also recognized a difference to the pre-Corona period: “People approach such events more consciously and gratefully.

They know that holding such events is no longer a matter of course.

There is even more humility and joy in the game.” His conclusion after the 19th city run: “A big running party with great record weather: no wind, ideal temperature and no rain.

Accordingly, there were many new personal bests.”

First the five, then the ten

Roman Schindlbeck won the five-kilometer run in 16:40 minutes. "I've never been that fast on the road," beamed the man from Eichenried, who used to play football for SVE and FC Moosinning before moving at the age of 22 to study and discovered running for himself.

Soccer and running coach Hans Bruckmeier was always at his side with advice and action, said Schindlbeck, who now trains at Stadtwerke München and celebrated his first win in Erding on Sunday, one day before his 35th birthday.

Three other runners started with him at a good pace, he reported.

After one and a half kilometers he then had his own race and clinched victory from the front without a final sprint.

Twice on the way: Roman Schindlbeck won over five, then started over ten kilometers.

The BMW employee runs ten hours a week, swimming and cycling units are added to that.

So a triathlete?

"I would still call myself a runner," said Schindlbeck, who is already looking forward to the next ten in the Munich marathon.

And the supreme discipline?

"Not this year," said Eichenrieder, who has already run seven marathons.

There was no more time for the interview.

Schindlbeck is preparing for the next race: the ten kilometers: "I'll set the pace for my girlfriend," he said.

That should pay off, because Maike Dohmen made it to second place.

Preparation at the Oktoberfest

Pacemaker also had Katarina Denkova with her.

However, Mama Zlatica and Papa Jan stood on the side of the road and, together with friend André Gorschikow, cheered on the 26-year-old, who said after the run: "I wasn't really that fast." And if she was.

The Slovakian, who has been living and working in Erding for four years, was third last year.

This year it looked like second place for a long time before she passed 300 meters from the finish.

The ZAR team also celebrated with her.

The outpatient rehabilitation center was registered with eleven runners, "and they all ran," said Christa Peißinger.

The day before, the entire team was at the Oktoberfest until after midnight - including five-kilometer champion Denkova.

Ten boxes of bananas, six kilos of yoghurt

Of course, training camps in the beer tent are not always promising, so here is a brief summary of what a runner should be consuming – apart from the sponsor's isotonic drinks: lots of fruit and roughage.

Thomas Tausch listed what organizer Trisport Erding was able to provide for the athletes, also thanks to sponsor Feneberg: “10 crates of bananas, 12 crates of apples, 30 watermelons and 30 honeydew melons, 12 kilos of rolled oats, 6 kilos of agave juice and 6 kilos of yoghurt.

And what's left goes to the table." One regretted Tausch: "The desire for lactose-free food is increasing from year to year.

But unfortunately we cannot afford that.”

Hot on the three-liter tankard

And then we come back to the beer.

Johann Ioannou-Nikolaides revealed why he likes coming to Erding: “The atmosphere is great.

There are so many people here and there is always good beer.

And I like beer.” For the 22-year-old physics student, it was clear after the past year: “I have to come back here to get the big glass too.

However, before he was allowed to lift the three-liter tankard, the athlete from LG Stadtwerke München had his duel with teammate Felix Luckner.

Both still had the strains of last week's German road championship in their bones.

"In addition, I'm currently training for mountain running and my legs were tired."

In front of the beautiful tower he noticed

that the last counterattack will not happen.

32:30.1 min meant a lead of more than twelve seconds for the student from Milbertshofen, who once played at the Olympic Village in Munich, "before I fell in love with running".

The season is not over for him yet.

The Berglauf-DM at Koenigssee "is already beautiful in terms of the route.

I also want to be in the top six, because I still need a certificate for a DM.”

Mother of two raves about Erding

By the way, Barbara Drewlo, who was the fastest woman of the day in 39:02.5 minutes, also spoke of tired legs.

And that despite the fact that she had completed the Dingolfing half marathon in the past few weeks in a personal best time (1:25 h).

"The last two kilometers were really tough today," admitted the Bavarian.

"I kept asking the cyclist if someone was behind me," she said with a smile and enthused: "Great weather, great route, great spectators, almost a little too warm.

A bit steamy.” Drewlo is 37 years old, has two children and is still on parental leave.

"That's why I have so much time for training right now," she said, laughing.

"I'll take what comes with me." In plain language, the triathlon is called middle distance and next week the Munich half marathon.

But Erding is one of her favorite runs.

"Four rounds, that's perfect",

said Drewlo, who starts for the Erdinger Non-Alcoholic team.

"I love beer" she said and had to laugh again.

Sportsmanship on company premises

Real sportsmanship apparently also blows in the halls of Spetec, a company based at Kletthamer Feld, whose boss Christian Rickert sets a good example.

The 68-year-old has been a long-distance runner in Erding for over a decade and was not at all surprised that nine employees had registered for the run this year.

"They also do wilder things." He reported on a bike ride to Lake Garda: "They rode 388 kilometers in one go, 30 hours."

Without cheerleaders and shawms

Speaking of Italy: Registrations came from Bozen this year, said Jürgen Syre, chairman of the organizer Trisport Erding.

Almost 900 participants, 150 late registrations, while others complained of a drop in participants of 20 percent or more, Erding was stable, he was pleased.

He only has quick news for the press: "Everything went so smoothly and smoothly that it's almost boring for you." Syre regretted that the cheerleaders and shawms were canceled at short notice this year and that the samba troupe also had to pass, but also he has a solution in mind for the future.

Water march: Drinking at 8 km/h is difficult.

A ten-year-old masters the ten

The future – that applies in particular to Benjamin Hof.

He ran the ten kilometers in under an hour – and that at the age of ten.

Was that his first ten?

"Officially," he said, grinning.

And of course it won't be his last either.

Johannes Zech from Fendsbacher Hof, who trains several times a week and takes part in running events once a year, also promised that.

Helmut Theiss will also be there again.

The 59-year-old was the last to arrive.

"Time is underground this year," said Erdinger.

But he also had a cold and was happy to have finished.

You can't tell heroes by their running time alone.
