The former world champion in judo, Jordan Jarbi, opened the new year today (Tuesday) with a brave step: Israel's Olympic bronze medalist from the Rio 2016 Games revealed that she is in a relationship with a woman, in a post she uploaded to her personal Instagram account.

"Love at first sight. Sometimes we don't know why things happen, maybe it's the thoughts that someone sent us something good, or maybe even fate," Jarbi wrote along with a photo of her with her partner.

"This is Dana, my partner. I fell in love with her from the moment our eyes met, and since then the love has only grown stronger. The feeling of happiness that has accompanied me lately, the butterflies in my stomach, the joy of life, the smile from ear to ear just like that, all thanks to her. So thank you."

The 33-year-old Jarbi was one of the most successful athletes in Israel in recent years.

In addition to the bronze medal in Rio and the World Championships she won in 2013, a year in which she also climbed to the top of the world rankings, she also achieved a bronze medal at the European Championships in 2012, two gold medals in Grand Slam competitions on the world tour and four more in Grand Prix competitions, before announcing her retirement in October 2017.
