Summary: Maccabi Tel Aviv - Ironi Kiryat Shmona 1:3 (Sport1)

After lengthy negotiations, today (Wednesday) Maccabi Tel Aviv managed to return Yonatan Cohen to its ranks, who returns to the club after one full season in Pisa, and will strengthen the offensive part of Vladan Ivitch.

The winger is the third "X" to return to the team this season, after Eran Zahavi and Dor Peretz.

Cohen himself made it clear a long time ago that he really wants to return to Kiryat Shalom.

If in the past it seemed that he was debating or wanted to continue in Pisa, later came a big change in his direction and he decided to return to the team with which he won two championships and one cup as a significant player.

The deal between Pisa and Maccabi Tel Aviv was only concluded in the last day and today at noon Cohen landed in Israel, soon passed medical tests and signed the contract for the next three years.

As part of the agreement between the clubs, Maccabi Tel Aviv waived a payment of 1.1 million euros to Pisa, which was supposed to be transferred as part of the deal last season, the yellows will also pay 200 thousand euros for his return and there are also bonuses worth 400 thousand euros that the yellows may pay in the future depending on the team's results.

In total, if you look at the deal of selling him to Pisa and joining him back, Maccabi Tel Aviv earned about 500 thousand euros.

So he will return to wearing the yellow and blue shirt with the number 24 and on the official website he said after the signing: "There is no one happier than to return home. I am already waiting to meet all the yellow crowd and make them happy in Bloomfield."

The manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv's football department, Barak Itzhaki, told the official website: "Yonathan's abilities and skills are well known to all of us and we have no doubt that he will upgrade us in a position that we were looking to strengthen. We are sure that the integration of Yonatan, who grew up in the club, will be smooth and fast and we all wish Good luck to him!"

Cohen, 26, grew up in the youth department of Maccabi Tel Aviv, and after spending loan seasons at Beitar Tel Aviv Ramla and Bnei Yehuda, he returned to the club in 2018 and became a dominant player in the yellow ranks. In 2019/20, he led Maccabi Tel Aviv to a second championship in a row, While finishing as the team's goalscorer (12) and assists (11).

After the success in Israel, he was sold to Pisa and in the media he made 27 appearances (26 last season and another 7 minutes as a substitute this season). He scored 4 goals, but failed to make a mark in the Italian team. Cohen started the team just 11 times, completed 90 minutes in just one game and barely featured in the promotion playoffs at the end of last season, finishing his chapter in Italy with 1,019 minutes in 27 appearances, an average of just 37.7 minutes per game.
