2nd Bundesliga: Hamburger SV beats Hannover 96 in added time

2022-09-30T18:42:28.773Z

The top four teams in League Two played at the same time on Friday night. Ransford Königsdorffer shot HSV to victory in the northern derby while Darmstadt turned the game around in Paderborn.

Hamburger SV remains leader of the 2nd Bundesliga.

At Hannover 96, HSV won 2-1 (1-1) with a late goal from substitute Ransford Königsdorffer.

In the parallel game, SV Darmstadt 98 managed a 2-1 away win at SC Paderborn, causing the two clubs to swap places in the table.

Darmstadt is now second with 21 points behind HSV (24), Paderborn third (19).

Hanover (17) is still fourth.

The derby between the two north German clubs was the 100th competitive duel since 1945. The game had only just begun when HSV left-back Miro Muheim slipped and lost the ball to Sei Muroya.

The Japanese was able to shoot into the free goal because goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes had positioned himself far out during Hamburg's possession (4th minute).

The guests determined the game despite the early deficit.

Robert Glatzel had a first goal, but his header hit the goal too centrally (7th).

At 1: 1, the center forward would have been ready to score.

96 defender Julian Börner got there before him when he tried to fend off Moritz Heyer's low cross, but instead scrambled into his own goal (15').

Hamburg was clearly superior, with up to 70 percent ball possession and more scenes in the penalty area.

But there were hardly any real big chances.

The best chances were missed by Sonny Kittel from an acute angle (66') and substitute Ransford Königsdorffer (86').

The latter prevented a draw with a strong individual action in injury time.

On the counterattack, he dribbled the ball from his own half to the opponent's penalty area, where he scored the 2-1 for HSV with a low shot into the left corner (90+2).

A series of six undefeated games in a row broke for Hannover.

In Paderborn, too, the first goal was scored in the 4th minute.

For the hosts, Robert Leipertz scored behind the Darmstadt defense after a long ball from Uwe Hünemeier.

Only a little later, the SCP could have increased to 2:0 when Patric Pfeiffer caused a penalty with a foul on Dennis Srbeny.

But Darmstadt keeper Marcel Schuhen saved Marvin Pieringer's shot in the left corner.

He also fended off Julian Justvan's follow-up shot (8').

Instead, the visitors equalized through Braydon Manu.

After a blocked long-range shot, Tobias Kempe crossed into the penalty area, where Manu showed a diving header (10').

And Darmstadt even turned the game around, again with a header after preparatory work by Kempe, who crossed a free kick from the right half-field to the far post, where Jannik Müller scored the 2-1 lead with a header (24th).

Paderborn played more and scored more goals than the guests, who were more likely to look for counterattacks.

Pieringer missed the equalizer (51'), Julian Justvan curled the ball just wide of the goal shortly afterwards (59').
