Continuing on from the start of the season, Le Parisien offers a selection of issues and events not to be missed in Île-de-France before each weekend.

Overview.

The place to go: beach volleyball at Roland-Garros

When fine sand replaces clay!

Temple of French and world tennis, the Philippe-Chatrier court has been transformed, for a weekend, into a beach volleyball court.

Rafael Nadal's favorite garden, crowned for the 14th time last June, has been hosting since Thursday and until Sunday, the first edition of the French stage of the world beach volleyball circuit.

The quarter-finals and semi-finals take place on Saturday (from 1 p.m.) and the finals on Sunday (from 12:30 p.m.).

The level promises to be raised since the best players in the world have responded to the event.

France, which wishes to develop the discipline two years before the Paris Olympic Games, will present 5 pairs for the tournament.

A DJ and many activities and demonstrations are also on the program.

After a good season in the skin of the promoted, the Plessis-Robinson, who begins the exercise in Chaumont, winner of the Coupe de France and candidate for the title of champion, will aim for the top 8. The Hiboux (nickname of the club) will always be able to count on the strike force of Antonin Rouzier, 36, European champion in 2015 and 243 caps with the Blues, and on the counterattacks of Médéric Henry and his 2.12 m.

Winner of the League of Nations with the France team in July, the international will be associated in the center with the American rookie Tyler Mitchem… An opponent he beat in the final of this League of Nations.

The question of the weekend: will the Paris Basketball coach be able to coach?

BASKETBALL.

To coach or not to coach?

On the eve of the reception of the promoted Blois for its first game of the season at home (after two trips and two defeats in Bourg and Nanterre), Paris Basketball still does not know if its new coach, the American Will Weaver, will be able to lead the team.

Since the start of the season, it's Bienvenu Kindoki, his first assistant, who stands up and coaches during matches.

Weawer remains desperately seated on the Parisian bench.

The reason ?

The technician has still not received the equivalence of his diplomas to be qualified by the Basketball League as a coach.

According to David Kahn, the president of the capital club, the responsibility for this situation lies with the Ministry of Sports.

“I am appalled by the way the Ministry of Sports and the League have handled the file of our coach,

castigated the person concerned on the twitter account of Paris Basketball On Air.

We sent a file on July 25, they lost it.

The club hopes, however, to receive this equivalence before the match against Blois.

The discovery: Chessboxing at the Cabaret Sauvage

After a first performance in early November 2019, chessboxing returns this Saturday in Paris.

The second evening of official fights in France (Intellectual Fight Club/IFC) opens its doors at 7 p.m., still at Cabaret Sauvage (59 Bd Macdonald, Paris 19th arr.), near the Zénith.

Chessboxing is a hybrid discipline combining English boxing and chess, physical strength and mental strength.

Concretely, two fighters face off by alternating 6 rounds of chess and 5 rounds of boxing.

The winner wins by KO, checkmate, on time or on stoppage by the referee.

This growing sport first appeared in 1992 in "Froid Equateur" a comic book by Enki Bilal, famous for its futuristic vision.

During this exceptional evening, four fights are planned, with the titles of French champion - 80kg and world champion in less than - 85 kg at stake.

A breathtaking visual show with commentary and live music, halftime show… and other surprises.

Admission: 30 euros.
