Due to too great a delay in the construction of infrastructure, Guinea will not host the 2025 edition of the African Cup

Guinea, deprived of CAN 2025. While she was supposed to organize it, she will finally have to pass her turn.

South African Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, announced it on Friday.

“For CAN 2025, the decision was made not to continue with Guinea because the infrastructure, despite the great effort made by the authorities, is not up to the level for the competition to take place there”, a- he declared during a press conference.

The leader had previously met with Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, head of the military junta in power in Guinea.

An episode far from unprecedented on the continent.

Cameroon, which hosted the tournament in 2021, was initially to have the organization of the 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations which ended up being held in Egypt.

“No one will be favored”

A real snub for Conakry which had declared the event of "national utility".

It must be said that the country is seriously behind in terms of infrastructure, particularly in terms of transport.

CAF must now find an alternative solution and gave a press conference this Saturday in Algiers after a meeting of the Executive Committee.

Patrice Motsepe wanted to be very clear about the new allocation of the 2025 edition of the CAN.

“I can assure you that there is no country in Africa that is going to be favored or that can pressure another country,” he said.

Before adding: “We are not going to choose a country that is not at an adequate level to meet our quality standards”.

By then, Senegal will have already put its title in play since an edition of the CAN must be held at the beginning of 2024 in Côte d'Ivoire.
