MotoGP: pole position for Bezzecchi, Quartararo well placed

2022-10-01T15:12:43.244Z

If the Italian Marco Bezzecchi created the surprise by taking pole in Thailand, all eyes will be on the Bagnaia-Quartararo duel, wheel to wheel on the grid.

Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati-VR46) took pole position in the Thai Grand Prix, his first in MotoGP, on Saturday at Buriram, where world championship leader, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), signed fourth time.

The 23-year-old Italian rookie broke the circuit record (1'29''671) in qualifying that "Quarta" had held since 2019 (1'29''719).

“In the last minutes, I gave everything, without thinking about the rest.

I didn't think I would realize this time.

It's incredible, it's a beautiful emotion.

But the most important part is tomorrow”, with the race (10:00 a.m. Paris time), reacted the native of Rimini, whose best ranking remains a second place in the Netherlands in June.

This is the 10th different poleman this season, a record in MotoGP, according to its organizer.

It is also the first time that a driver from the team created by legend Valentino Rossi, who is making his debut in the premier category this year, has won the timpani.

Jorge Martin (Ducati-Pramac) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) complete the 100% Ducati front row.

“We did a good job.

We have a good pace, we are ready for tomorrow,” said the Italian, runner-up to Quartararo in the world championship, who hopes to catch up with some of the 18 points that separate him from the leader.

The Niçois, who has not taken pole since the Indonesian GP in March, will start in the wheel of his rival, in the second row, alongside his compatriot Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac) and the Italian Enea Bastianini (Ducati-Gresini).

Third overall, 25 behind the defending champion, Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) risks losing big on Sunday.

The Spaniard, 13th fastest in time, will only start from the 5th row.

Six-time world champion Marc Marquez (Honda) got out of the trap in the first qualifying session.

He signed the 8th fastest time.

Rain is announced in Buriram, in the middle of the wet season, for the race on Sunday.
