Violent Dynamo Dresden fans did their best on Saturday to damage their club's reputation: their rampage began as soon as they drove to Bayreuth. The police are investigating a serious breach of the peace.

At least 14 people were injured in riots during the third division game between SpVgg Bayreuth and Dynamo Dresden.

According to the police, there was a dispute in the away fan block of the stadium in the game of the 3rd soccer league (1:1) on Saturday after the start of the second half.

Officials intervened after a steward called for help and were allegedly punched and kicked by fans.

"A controlled retreat of the emergency services could not calm the situation," says the police report.

»The attackers broke open the gate of the former guest entrance on Ellrodtweg and continued to try to influence the police officers.

However, officials were able to hold the gate.

That's why the group of Dresden fans destroyed the inventory of a nearby snack bar and used it as projectiles."

In addition to the property damage that arose, the caterer also complains that his cash register with income of 5,000 to 10,000 euros has disappeared.

Overall, the police estimate the property damage at 20,000 euros.

14 police officers were injured, one of whom required medical treatment.

It was initially unclear how many injured there were among the spectators.

Club: Lack of alcohol was not the problem

In a statement on Sunday afternoon, Dynamo condemned the "violent clashes between police officers, security forces and some Dynamo fans with numerous injuries on all sides".

The media had reported that the fans' aggression was sparked by the lack of "serving alcoholic beverages".

However, this was denied by Dynamo Managing Director Jürgen Wehlend: The exact reason is still completely unclear.

"Therefore, we ask for your understanding that we can only comment fully on the incidents when all the information is available.

The process for this was already started yesterday after the game, "said the club's announcement.

After the game against Erzgebirge Aue, Wehlend recently complained about his fans' "senseless and anti-social destructiveness".

Their rampage apparently began as soon as they arrived.

A train reached Bayreuth with a delay of 15 minutes, reported the mdr.

Apparently out of anger, windows were damaged on the train and doors were ripped out.

In Bayreuth, the police then escorted 1,300 people to the stadium, where the kick-off had been delayed to wait for the so-called fans.

They set off pyrotechnics on the way, threw bottles at the police and attacked passers-by taking photos.

A journalist was attacked and two of his cameras were stolen.

Jürgen Wehlend: »It is undisputed that every injured person is one too many.

We wish everyone who was injured, be it fans, employees or police officers, a speedy recovery and a speedy and holistic recovery.

It is extremely disappointing that this casts a dark shadow over the encounter in Bayreuth."

The police now want to evaluate the photo and video material from the events.

The Bayreuth criminal police are investigating several cases of serious breaches of the peace.
