River Rats: Who is fit for the start?

Personnel concerns plague ESC Geretsried before the first home game on Sunday (5.30 p.m.) against EA Schongau

Geretsried – The Geretsrieder River Rats have been on the ice since the end of August and have so far been through the preparation including four friendly games without an accident.

Ironically, in the week before the start of the Bavarian league, it was rock hard for the ESC: Last Saturday, ten players reported sick because of flu or corona, and the club had to cancel the last test match against Buchloe.

The personnel situation before the start on Sunday, October 2, against EA Schongau (5.30 p.m., Heinz-Schneider-Eisstadion) is therefore unclear.

"Of course I hope that all the injured players will come back by then," says Stefan Roth.

The new ESC trainer also had to take a break, with U20 coach Hans Tauber taking over the training.

"There were only 12 or 13 men, plus the goalkeepers," reports Roth.

He has now scheduled two more sessions for Friday and Saturday to see which players are fit enough to start the game.

"Regular preparation for the start of course looks different," admits the 42-year-old.

After all, the River Rats, where the recently injured Martin Morczinietz is said to be in goal, will face a well-known opponent on Sunday.

After all, the Mammuts were already guests in Geretsried three weeks ago and underlined with their 5:3 win in the friendly that they want to aim for their place as third in the preliminary round again.

Stefan Roth was not satisfied with the behavior of his protégés at the time: "We missed a lot of chances and were far too unfocused when we conceded." This time, the Canadian EAS newcomer Samy Paré had to be given special attention: "We have to get his row under control to get."
